I'm not entirely sure who first pointed this out Wednesday night, though I'm confident I read it first on Twitter. No matter the source, the impact hits just as hard: Next month's NBA Finals will be the first in 13 years to not feature Kobe Bryant(notes), Tim Duncan(notes) or Shaquille O'Neal(notes).
The last time the NBA played its Finals without Kobe, Shaq or Duncan? It was 1998, Michael Jordan was playing for the Bulls and I was telling my high school's creative writing teacher that Shaq and Kobe wouldn't get past Utah, because Elden Campbell was terrible at guarding the pick-and-roll. None of that was a joke, though Elden's defensive footwork was.
Just something to ruminate over, as you find yet another gray hair.
Dig the new breed, cats and kittens.
