Shaq rejected at White House

Despite a basketball-loving president and a collection of sports stars seen wandering the White House grounds, today they apparently turned away a big one — Shaquille O'Neal(notes).

Since Friday, The Big Witness has wondered if he's famous enough to flash nothing more than a smile at the Secret Service to stroll straight into Obama's home? No appointment or nothing. He even took an impromptu survey on a D.C. sports radio show:

"Check this out, I got on a nice suit, I'm in D.C. paying a visit, I jump out of a cab in front of the White House, I don't use none of my political or law enforcement connections. If I go to the gate and say, 'Hey, I'm in town, I would like to see the President,' do I get in, or do I not get in?" Shaq asked. Seriously.

Well, on Sunday afternoon, Shaq arrived in D.C., where he's getting ready to host "Monday Night Raw" at the Verizon Center, and promptly tweeted that he was headed over to the White House. A few hours later, burn:

I don't knowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. But it makes you wonder, if Shaq can't get into the White House on a "hey, just stopping by" whim, who can? Dan Levy of The Sporting Blog has Oprah, Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan near the top of his list, but we're interested to hear your top names, too. Personally, I like Charles Oakley's chances. What do you think? Comment away, friends.

Cheers, TrueHoop

Why would they let Shaqroid on to the White House grounds? Standing next to him is a sure way to look smarter than anyone has a right to look.

It seems that President Obama is extremely selective of the sports personnel he allows in the White House, but I'm sure LeBron was invited, while Shaq stood at the gate. He shouldn't take anything personally.

Shaq is so stupidly amusing. Does the big oaf not realize Obama has a job and better things to do than feed Shaq's enormous ego? Grow up, Shaq. Obama respects talent more than just size. If it were not for Shaq's size, he would be all but worthless since he only has average athletic skills. The big oaf can't hit many shots longer than 6 feet out.

I love Shaq, but c'mon, he's the President of the United States, not your homeboy. It's not like going to see..well anybody else. Besides you should getting in shape for your show or umm..your job trying to help the Cavs get past Orlando(since they're the Conference champs). Doesn't matter because The Lakers are going to win for the next three years anyway. O-Dumb, did you not see what happened to Ariza listening to his dumb @$$ agent for a couple of million dollars over a few years? Tell your idiotic agent to get you some endorsement deals to make up the difference. Sign with Hershey's or Willy Wonka and stay with world's best..fool, complaining while the majority of the world is struggling.

He's the President!!! He's tryin' to run the Country, he doesn't have time for someone who is not on his intelectual level, give me a break! Just drop 15lbs so you won't slow the Cavs fast break down and so you can get back on defense. It's 80 something games I hope you play at least 75 for the Cavs.
