Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose(notes) may have been excused from participating in the Rookie Challenge at All-Star Weekend later this month, but, unfortunately — and yes, I'm putting words in his mouth here — he couldn't quite talk himself out of having to defend his Skills Challenge crown.

That's right; Rose, who was also named to his first All-Star Game this year, will take on Phoenix's Steve Nash(notes), Utah's Deron Williams(notes) and Bucks rookie Brandon Jennings(notes) in an exhilarating event of speed, skill and raw nerve on Saturday, Feb. 13 at American Airlines Center in Dallas.

Nash won the Skills Challenge in 2005, while Williams, a Dallas native, took home the '08 trophy.

With stations testing dribbling, passing and shooting, the Taco Bell Skills Challenge is an excellent measure of a players' overall game, according to the NBA press release. The competitors must navigate through a series of obstacles, shooting stations and passing areas in the fas— ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ ...

Sorry, I hate this event. Wake me when they finally decide to have a full-blown street race.
