I would tell you why, but then I'd have to kill you by throwing a broken table leg through your heart!
Oh, sorry. Spoiler alert there.
Yes, apparently, one of Artest's childhood friends got killed in a pick-up game by getting speared with a broken table leg. Just let that sentence sink in for a moment. Let it marinate. Let the shock subside.
And then thank your lucky stars that the wildest thing you ever saw on a basketball court was that time David Lemon stumbled over his own shoelaces, scraped his knee on the asphalt and broke his glasses. Seriously. The poor guy didn't go to school for two whole days! What a trooper.
Cheers, Talk Hoops.
Update: As it turns out, Ron Artest's(notes) wild story about the table leg through the chest really happened.

"A 19-year-old basketball player from Queens was fatally stabbed with a broken-off table leg today after a fight broke out during a basketball tournament, the police said.
The player, Lloyd Newton, was stabbed in the back with a leg from the scorer's table at the championship game of a Y.M.C.A.-sponsored tournament at the Niagara Falls Boys and Girls Club, the police in Niagara Falls said."

now Ron may not have been there - he was only 11 years old at the time - but no doubt he played with guys in Queensbridge who were there.

INTERESTING FACT: Ron-Ron said Brandon Roy is the greatest player he ever played against because he scored 42 points on him, more than another other player. Kobe will take this as a personal challenge & will get baited into trying to prove a point to Ron which means I expect kobe to play selfishly(hopefully not the other way around like skeets mentioned). Kobe's an emotional hot-head. He got frustrated & slapped Ron's arms when they played the 1st time when they started talkin a lil bit. Imagine how irritated kobe's gonna be after a full series of Ron Artest Defense. Im definitely intrigued in that matchup... If Artest isnt on Kobe, Battier will be. If Kobe beats them Yao Ming will be waiting at the goal... If Kobe DOESNT struggle this series, I'll be thoroughly impressed...

lets see how long before kobe throws another elbow or knee this game... I give him by halftime
This comedy how this stuff unfolds right before your eyes just like i perdicted & people wonder why i hate kobe or why he's voted among the most hated in the NBA by NBA players... He gives the world reasons every night...

Give Laker girl #24 the will deserved 1 game suspension. And when his season is over, send him my way. I will give him a flagrant foul, or two, to remember.
