Ball Don't Lie - NBA

Get ready for two more years of grainy Getty Images and YouTube clips, people. According to Charley Walters of the Pioneer Press, the flashy young Spaniard has decided to play out his European contract in Spain:

The Minnesota Timberwolves' top draft pick, Ricky Rubio(notes), 18, will remain in Spain to play for his DKV Joventut basketball team for the remaining two years of his contract rather than try to move to the NBA this season, El Periodico reported today.

The Barcelona newspaper also says Rubio, who was paid $97,000 last season, plans to withdraw his contract lawsuit against DKV Joventut.

Pour out a little shaving cream for your draft pick, Minnesota.

Not for nothing, but Charley Walters isn't the most reliable of insiders I've ever come across. It could still be true, of course, but the very fact that is Walters makes me suspicious.

I bet he wants to play in a big city, that's why he is not coming to the NBA.

I sense Rubio has no intention of ever playing in Minnesota. They should trade him ASAP.

To posting #3 What's probably going to happen is that they will keep his rights, kind of like the spurs did with David Robinson. He was drafted but couldn't play until 2 years afterwards because of his comittment to the navy. But then again the can trade him aswell. The Spurs never trade david Robinson because they knew that he was worth the wait but Rubio's skills are too questionable in comparison to The Admiral.

The Timberwolves did the right thing in drafting another guard. Bambino Rubio realized he can't have his cake and eat it too. So he also withdrew the suit against his current Spanish team.
The Wolves can wait for him two more years. If he continue to perform well in the Euro League, he could be utilize by the Wolves or use as a trade bait.
Trouble for the kiddo is that after two more years the cold weather in Minnesota will still be freezing cold inspite of the global warming. Mama Rubio would still object of his beloved nino joining the Wolves!

Knew this would be a bad decision from the get-go. You don't draft players who make it blatantly obvious that they don't want to play for a smaller market team. It's nothing but bad news.
