Ball Don't Lie - NBA

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Sam Cassell probably couldn't throw this dunk down ... with or without Elliot Thomas' flying bike.

Great dunk, but I have one bone to pick. Tommy, I know you're the ultimate homer and all -- but please, the referees didn't let Jason Maxiell "getaway" with a hard foul. Maxiell made a fair play on the ball, Rondo put himself out there, and the much lighter man hit the floor. It's called basketball. It happens. Thank you.

(Video via Odenized, of course.)

Great Dunk, but just to let you know that Tommy Heinson was just simply stating that they let him get away with what could have been called a flagrant foul, I mean really at least 5 times out of 10 that would be called a flagrant. Also Tommy Heinson is one of the best announcers in basketball. He speaks his mind and does it like a true Celtics fan which he has def established himself as. So next time think before you diss Tommy Heinson again pal. Listen in on a Celtics game, everything he says is true and he speaks like a coach. Great dunk tho RONDO IS THE MAN!

    Skeets,
Technically ... Rondo's dunk was 'over' Maxiell, not Rip.
In your position, you should get the lingo straight.

Well ... the dunk really wasn't "over" anyone.
Rondo blew past Rip and he just beat Maxiell to the rim. But I took "Rip" out of the title. Fair call, khandor.

Really, the only reason to listen in to the Celtics broadcasting duo is for the inevitable silences after good calls and plays go against their team. It's amazingly consistent.

All I can say is Rondo has got huge ones. He shows no respect (not to be confused with disrespect) for veteran players' "status" and that is a very good thing for the Celtics and the league. He is on the court to play basketball and if you're on the court to play against him, you had best be focused and you had best be good. Yes, the Celtics have several great components (read Big 3) on their squad this season, but Rajon gives them yet another "WOW" factor on any given play on either end of the floor. I only hope that he does not get killed in the process; dunk with 2 and hold on until the dust settles!

come on guys.. enough with this flagrant 1 foul bullcrap.. if you want to see a flagrant 1 foul go youtube dirk merking kirilenko. maxiell made a play for the ball, he didn't hit rondo in the face or do anything excessive. when you got a lil kid like rondo who weighs a buck 85 and pit that against maxiell who weighs 260.. what did you expect to happen?? do the math. i'm a boston fan and i'd appreciate it if you guys would stop speaking out of your... lack of knowledge, it makes the rest of us look bad. thanks.

Well, when TJ Ford eats a foul like this, he isn't 'out there' - the other guy gets a Flagrant 2 and gets ejected. Likewise, if you're Dirk, you get suspended. Apparently, though, if you're Jason Maxiell, you're just playing "physical basketball, as it should be". I wish the refs could apply uniform standards, once and for all.
This play was dangerous for Rondo, period. The smaller player hit the floor, you said? Sure he did, he was body checked in midair. What did you expect would happen? There is no reason why it should be tolerated. I wonder what happens if Iverson was on the receiving end of this. Or, indeed, TJ Ford.

Gee #1 - I'm no Celtics fan and I KNEW that Heinson played for the Celtics and coached the Celtics...Heinson bleeds Celtic green. If you were even alive when CBS used to do the NBA, Heinson used to be one of their commentators.
He does know the game and is obviously biased for the Celtics. Rondo made a great play, and Maxiell hit him in mid-air. That SHOULD have been a flagrant b/c it's clear he wasn't making a play on the ball. The ball had already been thrown down and Rondo was on his way down when he got hit and driven into the floor.
Once again, I'm no Celtics fan. I'm a fan of the game, and that was a bad no-call. Unless something creepy happens, Celtics vs Spurs in the NBA Finals. You saw it here....
