Ball Don't Lie - NBA

We alternately feel a little bad and completely justified for linking to posts or columns that take on (and usually, if you'll allow me to fall into gym teacher mode, take down) Dave Berri and his Wages of Wins system of evaluating pro basketball players. Because I've yet to link to any of Berri's rebuttals, it's not really the fairest of fights, not that Dave needs my help. Then again, maybe Dave shouldn't overrate rebounds so bloody much.

It's a feeling (the rebounds bit, partially, but also the worry that came before it) that seems to run through most of the APBR community, a scene (man) that has spent the last year and a half wondering if all this public sniping between Berri and others (since the Malcolm Gladwell-influenced promotional blitz that surrounded Berri's re-emergence) is good for the scene, man.

Uneasy times, all around, which is why we should forget our troubles and have a little fun ... at Wages of Wins' expense. Whee!

Jason Gurney, one of the two masterminds behind BallHype (the other mastermind, we hope, will have a two-liter Diet Coke slapped out of her hands tonight, as Jason denies the wing), has put together a handy little quiz that you should probably take the time to work through. It's likely to blow your mind, but it's just as likely to get you cheering for rebounds with the same fervor that you used to cheer a four-point play with. Twelve people will get that joke.

It's also likely to put this song in your head, which is always nice.
