Photo: The Curious Case of Gregory Oden

Ah, see — now it all makes sense. He's aging backwards! Corn was right all along.

I guess I don't see as much potential in Oden as everybody else. He looks like a good defensive player at best. His rebounding is weak for a 7 footer.

Greg Oden will become a 25/15 player in about 3 years. Fearless prediction.
Oden/Roy will become the next Bryant/Shaq but in a Pippen/Russel sort of way.

I dont see why people still believe in this bum.. He is hot garbage. I'd take Chris "birdman" Andersen over this bum in a heartbeat. I got league pass and I dont even see this bum in the games. He is doing the same thing he did last year but this time he has warm ups on. He is not even in the top 20 in blocks. the no name starting center for the Heat puts up better #'s then him. cant use his injury as a excuse, just ask Amare Stoudamire. In three years he will be 25/15 player.. Get out of town with that statement!!!!

If you've watched the actual Benjamin Button movie, and then read this guys article, his "theory" makes no sense.
Button didn't lose bone density as he grew younger...he wasn't an arthritic newborn at the "end" of his life...no, he was a regular newborn baby completely healthy who just died. Anyway, after looking at pictures of Greg in college and HS, its quite easy to tell hes aging too fast, not aging backwards...

First of all, Amare was already an established force in the league when he came back from MF surgery...he knew what to do to be dominant, and people knew he was dominant, plus the dude has range outside of 4 feet...oh and Amare's not an inexperienced 20 year old lacking in self-confidence. Greg is supposed to be a defensive guy, anyone who sees him as a 25 point guy is an idiot, especially with Roy and Aldridge playing alongside.
You don't see Greg on the court when you watch the games, yes, foul trouble, he's learning...take a look at Amare's rookie season, he fouled out of quite a few games and was in foul trouble more games than not.
Anyway, Greg's not very good right now (Blazer fan living in Portland, I am) but gotta give the dude some time to bring the game in...I'm willing to wait
Guess how many points Kobe averaged in his first...AND second seasons...And he's arguably the most prolific scorer of all time.

I wrote that before Halloween, before the movie ever came out. Nor did I read F. Scott Fitzgerald's short story. I just knew the premise and it seemed like a decent premise with which to talk about Oden's prospensity for injury, his amazingly old-looking features and his demeanor. TBH, I have no idea what happens to Brad Pitt in that movie, but I do still believe that Oden ages backwards. Really.

Take a look at Andrew Bynum's 2006-2007 (2nd year) stats. Compare them to Oden's stats this year. Go ahead. Oden is coming off a severe injury and is in his first full year in the league. Give him a break. I can easily see him being a double-double player next year if he progresses like Bynum did.

Greg Oden is great, give him time. The guy is mature and wants to be great. He wants to play basketball and be a beast. a lot of 7 footers play because they are tall and look for that big pay day so they can do what they really want to.
but the dude does look old and got me thinking he could date a hot 22 year old and people who don't know who he is, believe it or not a lot of people don't follow NBA or college bball, will see the couple and think man that guy could be her dad.

Not that I wish the guy bad luck but I've been saying to anyone who would listen that this guy is seriously overhyped and overrated. The college game and pro game are two different animals. Another example of giving a big contract to a guy who hasn't played or proven himself for 1 minute at the pro level. Tell you what, I'd take Pryzbilla in a heartbeat over Oden when it comes to getting 30 plus minutes a night and guarantee you Pryz will beat him everytime. Compare their stats on any given night minute for minute. Neither one of these guys is much of a scorer but one thing is for sure, you know your gonna get monster boards and blocks with Pryz and at least some intensity. Why they don't give Pryz more than 15-20 minutes a night is beyond me. Look at what Oden gives you for the minutes he plays...it's lathargic at best. I agree with the other writer who says for a 7 footer he doesn't rebound or block anywhere near where he should be. There truly are guys on most fantasy basketball free agency markets that will out stat this guy with almost half the minutes on any given night. There are small forwards and guards in the league who out rebound and out block this guy. What a letdown. The sad part is Portland fans thought this guy was going to be there savior. Personally, he'd be trade bait now if I were Portland before the word gets out that he's injury prone and can't cut it in the NBA. May be too late already. My 2 cents. Thanks for reading...

they even says that oden is depressed, that is the reason why he was not playing so well, they even thought to trade outlaw for conley because, conley can motivate oden to play well,i do not know about that i think there were too much hype on him playing, he is just underachieving, i don't think he will register 20-10 numbers but he is still a viable center with a lot of upside than other first round number 1 pick center, like OLAWAKANDI,i guess in two years or so he will be better and get at least 10 points and 9 rebounds and 1 block per outing.

the problem is that oden is too eager to please everyone and live up to expectations. He really should just relax and go with the flow. He's got the tools to be great, just let him play the way he is comfortable with and he should be playing better, and then, after a few years of experience and conditioning, he should be great. I really believe he could register dwight howard-esque numbers someday.

If you can tell me how 7 rebounds in 22 minutes makes for a "poor rebounder", I'd love to know. Oden, while not a superstar yet, has one of the top rebound per possession and rebound per minute rate. Sames goes for blocked shots. Keep in mind this is his rookie season. He only played one year of college. Give him some time. Maybe he won't end up being Shaq, but he doesn't have to. If he ends up with averages of 18 and 11, which is exceedingly doable next year, and he continues to progress on defense, the Blazers will be quite happy.

First of all just the fact that everybody talks so much garbage about him shows that he has really got something. I watched oden play his only season at ohio state and he is not that player since he came back for sure. But he does improve every game, that he doesn't foul out of early. And If you have watched every game like I have this year then you would see the clear impact he has when he is in the game, whether he is playing well on offense or not. He is not as fast as he was in college, but he is getting closer, and he has had to play his leg back into shape. It's not like he blew his knee out and everybody said with proper rehab he's got so many weeks till he is better, this was a potential career ender and it takes a long time to come back from something like that. without fouls he is clearly a dominant defender, his youth really shows on offense but the sky is the limit. He's a guy who will work and get better and only has to average 15-10-2.5 per 28 for portland to be a contender in his first couple of years. You really don't think he can do that? I would be hating on portland to if they were going to be dominating my team till who knows when.
