Wolves could surprise at No. 7

NEW YORK -- The Minnesota Timberwolves could make a surprise choice at No. 7, choosing Florida State forward Al Thornton, according to a league executive.

Here were the trade possibilities percolating around the league hours before the draft:

• The New Jersey Nets delivered a proposal of Richard Jefferson, Nenad Krstic and Jason Collins to the Pacers for Jermaine O'Neal, multiple league sources said Thursday. Krstic is rehabilitating a torn ACL suffered early last season, but is expected to be back for the start of the season. There isn't any draft day urgency to the deal because no picks are involved, so if the scenario does advance, sources expect it would not happen until July.

• The Portland Trail Blazers and New York Knicks have had serious discussions about a trade that would send Zach Randolph and Martell Webster to the Knicks for Steve Francis and Channing Frye. Other parts have been included in proposals, but all combinations include Randolph.

• The Washington Wizards are believed to be eying Italian guard Marco Belinelli with the 16th pick.

• Sean Williams, the troubled Boston College center, is expected to be the Nets' choice at No. 17.

I will agree that Jermaine O'Neal is a very good player, but is not worth both Jefferson, and Krstic. Not for Oneal to opt of of his contract next year. Then what? Are the Nets going to do anything with just Carter and Kidd, give me a break!. I would possible do this trade just for V.C and Collins or Jefferson and Collins.

Id rather the Pacers trade O'Neal to the Hawks for the 11th pick, Joe Johnson, and speedy Claxton

Interesting trade with the Blazers from the Knicks perspective. Randolph is better than Frye has the potential to be and Francis would be a good point guard again if given the chance. He will be awful here in NY but would excel in portland especially with dumping passes in to Oden. Makes sense from both sides. Webster is a young and talented player. I doubt he would be coming back in this scenario unless the knicks tossed in the 23rd pick

Nets would be a beast with JO, but giving up Jefferson and Krstic is gonna leave some more holes for them to fill.

O'Neal to New Jersey is a steal, pacers must be waiting for other offers.
Randolph to Knicks is a steal Francis is past his prime and who is Webster ? Lakers should do what ever it takes to land Garnnet sign R. Lewis sign Billups or Blake and keep on going until they get ride of 6 or 7 players from last years dog of a team. then trade Kobe to new orleans and see if he can take some more losing Kobe cost the Lakers 3 possible rings starting with the Detroit series

this will be a good trade for the Nets if they can put another player in there besides Kristic. J Oneal and Kristic makes a good front court!

I like randolph, he's a big man who can score and rebound...The Blazers whould hold on for at least a year, let Oden learn a little from an established big scorer...(Randolph's the only one they got).

Good deal.. That would be the best that the Indiana can get in JO. Compared to Odom and Bynum. I rather Have Jefferson and Kristic on my team and Collins eventhough there just simply a role player.

The Portland trade makes no sense. One, were rebuilding our franchise, we don't need overpaid players with terrible knees. Jarrett Jack is our PG. You know how much money Francis will make? He is making around 16 million this season. As a personal Portland fan, I agree, Randolph has to go, he is expensive, and not a good guy. I'd take Frye, but I like Webster, his 3 ball is developing, soon he will be an excellent three point shooter, the trade makes NO sense. Instead of Francis, give us Lee, then I'll say make the trade.

lol @ oneal for hte 11th jj and claxton
at 11 there is still great talent j oneal has horrible knees and has yet to LEAD his team anywhere but the eastern conference finals once 2ndly the only reason the nets want him is cuz they are a contender... the hawks arent gonna contend for a long time so trading their best player and more young talent for a injury ridden center woudlnt make sense especially since they are still rebuilding.

I'm sick and tired of the NBA. The league only does well when the Lakers win. Make the fans in L.A. wait another 25 years for their next title, it would only be fair. And why does the NBA owe Kobe a championship? He acts like his career is bigger than the biggest franchise in the NBA.

there is no way the blazers make this deal without another deal in place to ship Steve Francis. The Knicks cannot get rid of their trash that easy. Pritchard has been very clear about character in his priority list and Steve Francis will NOT fit into the mold...

trading ray allen and completely rebuilding this seattle team shows me that clay bennett has no desire to keep this team in seattle. very disheartening

mecnj, Franchise ain't dumping the ball into Oden. He had the chance to do that with Howard! He was stunting his growth. He played with Yao too! Face it, Franchise doesn't want to play with a big man.

I like this trade. It's good for the Pacers to get 3 for 1 plus loose JO's 20+ million a year. It's a good step in the right direction. Now maybe we can get rid of JT also.
