The Nets' and Wizards' woes are well-known. The Nets were in a season long race to not have the worst record of all time, and outside of challenging that record, the Wizards have had everything bad that could happen in an NBA season happen to them this year. Those are pretty big deal bummers.
But then there are the Raptors. You might not think about them having such a terrible year because they aren't one of the worst teams ever and no one is bringing guns into their locker room. No, the Raptors are having a very secretively bad year, which can't be too much fun. There's been Chris Bosh's(notes) impeding free agency, the possibility that he might hate his team, Hedo Turkoglu's partying, "Hedo's" dancing — lots bad has happened for the Raptors this season and fighting for the 8th seed in the East doesn't cover that up.
It's kind of hard to tell in this Zapruder-ish clip, but that's definitely an elbow to the face of the Raptors' franchise player. And it definitely happened going into the last week of the season with a minuscule one game lead on the Bulls for the last spot in the playoffs. Bad timing award.
The Raptors face the Celtics on Wednesday night, then they have Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit and New York to finish up the season. Atlanta and Boston are fighting for home court advantage, so they won't be taking any games off, and the Bulls are trying to catch the Raptors. Eesh. At least they end up with two bad teams.
On the plus side, Toronto remains one of The Economist Intelligence Unit's top places to live. Just looking for a silver lining, guys.
