New 'NBA on TNT' spot: Dwight Howard and Rainn Wilson

Today, TNT, home of exclusive Thursday night NBA doubleheaders and "Inside The NBA," announced what we knew all along: Actor Rainn Wilson, star of the Emmy-award winning sitcom "The Office," is a guest star in a series of exclusive spots promoting the 2009-10 NBA season on TNT.

The spots are driven by the concept of "taxicab confessionals" with Wilson serving as the mulleted cabbie to NBA stars Dwight Howard(notes), Gilbert Arenas(notes), Derrick Rose(notes) and Deron Williams(notes).

"Ever since I was growing up watching the Seattle Supersonics I've been the hugest NBA fan. So of course I was thrilled to be working with the some worlds greatest (and tallest!) athletes," said Wilson to no one in particular. "Although, I have to say, enough with this baggy shorts nonsense. Bring back the NBA hotpants look of 1979!"

    Seems like a rip-off of Jimmy the Cab Driver from MTV fame back in the 1990s.

    Pretty average...not great, not terrible. Am I right when I say the Ali G spots were the best NBA on TNT commercials?

    no. no. no. sonics references on an nba ad? what a piece of garbage move by the nba to reference a franchise that about a year ago they simply deleted. like i really want to be reminded that david stern is about as money oriented as any public figure. http://sonicsgate.org
