Monta Ellis and his pregame hot wax

I know, I know, this weird Monta Ellis video has been passed around the blogosphere more than Nate Robinson at a family barbeque. But I'd feel dirty if I didn't post it here, and well, my water pressure is horrible.

It's a little known fact, but Eddy Curry practices nearly the exact same pregame ritual. Instead of hot wax though, Curry dips his hands in melted milk chocolate, rolls 'em in a bowl of M&M's, and then slathers on some whip cream. He claims it's an old wives' recipe.

While it's interesting to see him on the court during warmups with the wax on his hands, I know for a fact that most NBA teams have one of the heated wax tubs in the training facilities and have had them for years and years. It mainly helps remove dead skin from your fingers, which assures a better grip when your hands are sweaty.

Sometimes in a big (or small) arena it helps to warm up your hands. Clapping and blowing on them helps, but wax is possibly just as effective... although it does earn you some weird points towards the "Gilbert Arenas Award.
