Martell Webster wouldn’t mind being an intern for an RnB singer

Minnesota Timberwolves wing Martell Webster(notes) isn't just trying to find a gig overseas, or a job at his local Chick-fil-A. Naw, the (sometimes) sweet-shooting small forward has decided to take to Twitter to ask R&B impresario Ryan Leslie for a gig. Not as some knob-twiddler in the studio, or as a hype man on stage. Nope, Webster wants to start from the ground up. He wants to be an intern.

From Webster's Twitter page:

Martell is likely mindful of the NBA's current lockout, and pragmatic about his future employment options.

After all, he was amongst the last NBA first-round picks to be selected straight out of high school (the 2005 revision of the NBA's collective bargaining agreement outlawed that particular arrangement), so he may have to search a little harder in order to find gainful employment should the NBA's owners decide to give a middle finger to anyone with half a brain, and cancel the 2011-12 season.

But as an intern? Even if it was a poorly considered pair of tweets, that shows a level of love that goes beyond trying to augment some lost income. This guy knows what he wants. And while I'm pretty much your go-to guy for R&B until 1983 or so (I'm honestly listening to Evelyn "Champagne" King's classic "Love Comes Down" as I write this), I have nary a clue as to who Leslie is.

Webster does, and that's the point. And it's a smart take, starting from the ground up.

It's also a heck of a lot better than throwing yourself at Celine Dion.
