Skeets note: On Tuesday, BLS and BDL contributor Nick Friedell's Magic season tickets showed up. Nice, right? Um, yes and no ...
Orlando Magic season tickets hit mailboxes all over Central Florida yesterday, but instead of honoring the franchise's 20 year anniversary, the team seems to have forgotten parts of its past. Each game ticket features a different person who has contributed in some way to the organization over the last two decades. Dwight Howard is ever-present appearing on several different tickets, including the Opening Night version. Rashard Lewis, Stan Van Gundy, Horace Grant and Scott Skiles all make appearances as well. Heck, even Shaq, who was reviled by Magic fans after leaving for Los Angeles, got his own ducket.
After going through the ticket book, I noticed a few glaring exceptions though. Namely, Tracy McGrady is nowhere to be found. T-Mac was the face of the franchise through the early part of this decade and although people around the area still have a sour taste in their mouths about the way he left town, there's no denying that the Auburndale native was one of the most important players ever to don a Magic uniform. He scored 8,298 points for Orlando, second most in team history, ranks sixth in rebounds (2067), fifth in assists (1533), sixth in blocks (292) and fourth in steals (452).
To put the T-Mac ticket disrespect into perspective, consider that the franchise honored, among others, a fan named "The Hat Lady", a group of entertainers known as the JetBlue Crew, the television play by play man, the Spanish radio play-by-play man, Jeff Turner, a series of un-named fans, and Patrick Ewing twice ... because, of course, nothing says 20 years of Orlando Magic basketball like Patrick Ewing.

I figured that somebody in the front-office was still upset with McGrady, hence the no-show on a ticket. But when I looked a little closer I realized that Darrell Armstrong wasn't anywhere to be found either. While Armstrong might not be a household name around the country, he was, and still is, revered in Orlando. You could make the argument amongst long-time Magic fans, that he was the most popular player in franchise history. His mark on the franchise was indelible. He ranks second in assists (2555), second in steals (830), sixth in points (5898) and eighth in rebounds (1645). Yet the man who helped the franchise coin the term, "Heart and Hustle" was ignored.
If you're going to celebrate the history of a franchise, you have to celebrate all the good parts, even if they don't feel as good anymore. You can't just leave out the parts you would like to forget or simply gloss over. I'm not saying everybody has to be remembered, surprisingly, Grant Hill did not make the cut, but at least show some love to somebody besides the team mascot who appeared on two different tickets.
As I was about to close the book I realized Dennis "3-D" Scott and his franchise leading 981 three pointers didn't make it either, but somehow the "3-D Dancing Dancer Dads" did.

in cases like hill and tmac maybe their current teams won't let another team use their stars on their promotional prints or something... it doesn't sound that weird to me...
