LeBron James(notes) and his LRMR Marketing company have been talking to McDonald's for years about some kind of endorsement deal and it's finally looking like the two are ready to share a Happy Meal.
On Monday, James flew to Indianapolis and spent the day shooting a commercial with Magic man Dwight Howard(notes) and Boston Celtics legend Larry Bird, according to Brian Windhorst of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
It is believed that the spot is for McDonald's.
Indiana Pacers fan blog Indy Cornrows reported the spot was filmed at Conseco Fieldhouse and that it is a throwback to a famous Bird commercial with Michael Jordan where the stars played a game of H-O-R-S-E. Jordan and Bird first debuted the spot on Super Bowl coverage in 1993 as they fought over a Big Mac and fries, creating and then hitting numerous impossible shots and adding "nothin' but 'net" at the end.
Dwight Howard in a game of H-O-R-S-E, eh? I wonder if Bird's "off the floor, off the scoreboard, off the bank board, no rim" line will be replaced with "um, just a free throw, I guess."
Word has it the commercial will run during the Super Bowl, which would be James' third Big Game commercial. His first was in 2005 for Bubbilious brand gum, and last year he dreamt he was playing football for the Cleveland Browns in a popular State Farm ad. He may have also voiced one of the Budweiser frogs. We're not sure.
