Lakers: Phil Jackson will return for 2009-10 season

Los Angeles Lakers head coach Phil Jackson, fresh off a record 10th NBA Championship as a coach, announced on Friday that he will return to his sideline throne next year for another run at a ring. How Jackson plans on growing an 11th finger is beyond me, but nevertheless, he's back, sans dramatic fax.

"After consulting with Lakers team internist Dr. John Moe, I feel confident that I can gainfully pursue an NBA season with another long playoff postseason. All things point to go!," said Jackson through a team release.

The announcement comes less than 24 hours after free agent forward Ron Artest(notes) reached a verbal agreement to join the Lakers next season, which makes one wonder whether team doctors checked Jackson's blood pressure before or after the signing.

    Of course. If the Lakers did not have a good team, he would've retired. He is going to ride another good team to the top. "OMMM. Are we in the finals yet?" "Uh, sir, the season has not even started. " "Oh, wake me up in June then. Ommmm."

    Cool! Have to sign Lamar and we have a great shot at multiple rings providing everyone stays healthy. I feel bad for Ariza, he seems like a genuinely great person, but his agent really screwed the pooch on this one. He's now destined to be the new Devon George, not in terms of talent, but in anonymity. Best of luck to him, hope he does well, he deserved better. Lakers2010.

    That's it everyone on board. L.O won't even think about leaving L.A, his agent is just squeezing but I bet Lamar learned an important lesson from Ariza plus he's made a lot money in the league more than Ariza so Ariza was absolutely about cashing in. I hope this thing will work out.

    Phil J. said before that the Best Player he ever Coached wasn't Jordan,Pippen,Shaq & Kobe..but it's the "Worm" Rodman..what'll he say Now if he'd Artest on his roster?..Maybe he'll changed his mind?hahaha...Go Lakers!

    Ariza never says anything so in my mind his agent screwed him. Signing for the Rockets for the same amount the Lakers offered him was a last ditch effort to get the minimum excemption or else he'd be back at 3 mil.

    Thank you Phil for coming back ! The addition of Artest does make it easier (and I think signed because Phil told him he was coming back). Odom will be back. Why do you think he is not being coveted by other teams given that he can pose match up problems ? Teams are backing off because he is LOCK to be back with LA (prob at 8-10 mil per year). Yeah, yeah, yeah he is inconsistent at times but there is no denying his skill set and the problems he can create for opposing teams' defense. Fisher - Kobe - Artest - Gasol - Bynum (hopefully healthy). See you again in Figueroa and at the Coliseum next year !
