The Los Angeles Times' Mike Bresnahan reports that the Lakers and their young center have finally got into bed together: "The Lakers and Andrew Bynum have agreed in principle on a four-year contract extension worth about $58 million, keeping their center of the future in the fold through the 2012-13 season, according to sources familiar with the negotiations who would not speak publicly. Bynum, who will make $2.8 million this season, will earn close to $42 million over the first three years of his contract extension. The fourth year will be a team option for about $16 million." So, $58 million paired with a shorter deal. Good compromise, L.A.. Both sides should be happy with it. Well, as long as Bynum stays away from all low-powered motorized vehicles, of course.

I was at the Laker Game last night....Bynum is good but hasn't become great yet. He still has a lot to prove. He hasn't shown us anything yet. He better not whine or cry this season....he is still technically a big baby.

    Skeets, that was funny!
I thought they were going to wait and see how he played out an entire season and actually pay for production vs paying for potential. Oh well, I was wrong again. I am happy that they have decided to lock him up as part of the Lakers future. Now he can just go out and play basketball and not worry about how many $1 bills he throws out at a party.
I sure hope he gets back to the level that he was playing at in January. If that happens, we will be a very good team.

Hahahah! Wow, talk about overpriced. They should have just waited until the season ended. The Lakers are basing 14 MILLION PER SEASON based on about 30 games. This basically means the Lakers are getting rid of Odom next year. (since they won't have any cap left to resign him) This means the Lakers are risking their future on a gamble for maximum price. If Bynum's numbers last season turn out to be a fluke, or Bynum ends up really just being a 10 to 13pt/8reb per game guy, the Lakers would have THE worst contract in the league, hands down.

The lakers are great and the only point of improvement is that they have to be more physical and not have to many scoring lapses.

if u think about it bynum is a top 5 center right now nobody can name me 5 centers who are better and hes nowhere near his prime on top of us averaging a 29 point victory through our first 2 games and everyone still hasne completely gelled yet and bynum is being tutored by a hall of fame center hes developed a decent mid-range jump shot because of his injury last year lol anybody trying to hate on LA will be praying for a miracle cause they look overwhelming......

"Bynum ends up really just being a 10 to 13pt/8reb per game guy, the Lakers would have THE worst contract in the league, hands down. " Did you not watch the game last night, very first Clippers posession Bynum blocks Kaiman's shot. How many shots were altered or passed back out just by him being there? This team doesn't need him to be "the guy". Lakers already have that with Kobe.
