Ball Don't Lie - NBA

Big news via Sports Media Watch today: Former Minnesota Timberwolves vice president Kevin McHale has found a new job, joining Ernie Johnson and Chris Webber(notes) on NBA TV's Tuesday "Fan Night" telecasts, replacing my friend, and yours, Gary Payton(notes).

I'm not overly excited about the move.

As scatterbrained as GP was at times on air — "Ching sham on, man. I like dat. It like when you got hit." — there's no denying that he and C-Webb made for some entertaining television.

I mean, can you really picture Kevin McHale doing this?

With that said, McHale was a good quote during his playing days with the Celtics, and he does have previous broadcast experience working for two years on Wolves telecasts. In fact, according to The Star Tribune, his ex-broadcast partner, Kevin Harlan, recommended TNT add him to its stable of announcers.

I guess we'll give him a chance.

Besides, the bigger news is that Ernie Johnson will replace Ahmad Rashad as the host. Thank. God.

when will they realize ....they need to get rid of ERIC SNOW..............he's by far the worst. GP and Cwebb were amazing and I will miss it, great chemistry and never boring. GP also kept us wondering with the wardrobe.

McHale will be 10x better than GP. Kevin is articulate, funny, and good natured, none of which can be said about GP. Plus, McHale brings the experience of being a Championship player, a GM and a head coach to the booth, which gives him a wide perspective.
    Great move!

The only word I understood in that entire video was "Kobe", I think maybe because there's no way to really change that one to some kind of half word or grunt or woooooooo. Jus' sayin'

Why would they do that watching Gary Payton and Chris Webber sing was hilarious... Maybe his analyst skills were not that good but he put on a show for us... Which is what people like to watch... And what about Ahmad Rashad? I hope he still on the show

WHAT!?!?! Does this mean they're giving GP his own show? "Everyone Loves the Glove" maybe? GP & CWebb are a great combo! Who does McHale sleep with to stay employed year after year?

Webber and Payton were too much, it was jokes and speaking all that hood talk that the gloveless would speak. It got old. McHale knows that game like the back of his hand. He speaks well too! This will be much better.
    Gary who?

Gary Payton, while a good guy was too lazy to go back to school and bring his language skills up to an acceptable level. He sounded so ghetto at times that I was embarassed for him. With the addition of McHale the program will sound more intelligent and polished but it will lack emotion and pazazz.
