Well, well, well ... tonight's Mavericks-Nuggets contest suddenly has a little more drama to it, and no, I'm not talking about the 600 or so "Leverage" and "Closer" commercials we're about to endure. (We get it TNT, you know drama. Move on.)
No, instead, Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin(notes) would like a word or two or forearm shiver with Mavericks billionaire owner Mark Cuban. Martin isn't happy about the remarks Cuban made to his mom in the controversial aftermath of Game 3 on Saturday.
Cuban admits when a fan called the Nuggets "thugs" he turned to Martin's mom, Lydia Moore and said, "That includes your son." Burn! Martin's agent also claims Cuban told Ms. Moore, just a day before Mother's Day, "Your son is a punk!" (Forgetting to sign your mom's card doesn't seem so bad now, does it?)MORE
Now, Cuban denies making the "punk" comment, but that didn't stop K-Mart from sounding off on the war of words this morning. He didn't hold any verbal punches, according to Chris Dempsey of The Denver Post:
"I don't feel I need to call his name in the media and all that, but it's a little personal," Martin said after the Nuggets shootaround today. "And I'm going to take care of it." [...]
"[You] don't say nothing to my kids or my family," Martin said. "If you got something to say, say it to me. But I'm going to take care of it. I'm not going to do the whole media thing, back and forth. That's his thing. I'm more of a face-to-face type of dude."
Set your TiVos, folks — 9:30 p.m. EDT.

Update: This game has already seen its fair share of technicals and flagrant fouls, but thankfully/unfortunately none have involved K-Mart or Cuban. According to Calvin Watkins of The FanHouse, Cubes wouldn't talk much about the incident while working out before the game, and Martin wasn't around to speak to reporters. We'll keep you posted if any "Yo Mama" jokes start flying.

Update No. 2: I either fell asleep for two minutes or TNT didn't air this, but Art Garcia of the NBA.com Playoff Blog reports Martin came to the defense of his mother, Lydia, who is sitting about six rows up near the Denver end, while officials were reviewing a play in the second quarter. Apparently, K-Mart unleashed hell at the Dallas fans sitting around her:
"You [expletive] better cut the [expletive]," he shouted, as team personnel tried to pull him back to the huddle. "You’re going to get [expletive] up."
Martin then said to his mother: "Somebody do something to you, you better tell me. I’m going to [expletive] somebody up."
Security came to the area to speak with Martin's mom, but she remained in her seat. Yikes.

Update No. 3: Following Monday's wild game, Cuban apologized for exchanging words with Ms. Moore on his blog:
"... I would like to apologize to you and your mom KMart for my comment. I should have not said anything and I was wrong. Hopefully you will accept the apology and we can move on."
"When the series comes back to Dallas, your family, and the family of other Nuggets players are welcome to stay in my suite, with my family. Its amazing how tempers mellow when real people talk to each other and realize that its still just a game."
When the series comes back to Dallas. Ha! Well played, Mark.

Hatred for the better team it just proves Cuban is a low life himself, complaining and whining to the mother of a player on the opposing team not only crosses the line but is very very VERY poor sportsmanship. For the owner of a professional team to display such a despicable act not only tarnishes his teams professionalism but the NBA as a whole .
