K.G. bound for Boston

Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Garnett appears to be headed to the Boston Celtics in a monumental NBA trade, multiple league sources said Monday afternoon.

One player's agent said Celtics players going to Minnesota for the 10-time All-Star have been notified that the deal is imminent.

Boston's talented young forward Al Jefferson and the expiring contract of veteran Theo Ratliff are the centerpieces of the trade that's been on and off for months between buddies Kevin McHale and Danny Ainge. The Celtics are also including Gerald Green and Sebastian Telfair.

The Celtics and Minnesota will also exchange future No. 1 picks, sources said.

One possible snag is the re-working of Garnett's contract, which includes a 15-percent trade kicker of $6.75 million this year. It is believed that Garnett is willing to play in Boston after rejecting a deal in May, but the Celtics still must come to terms with Garnett on a contract extension.

If the deal does go down, Boston is a legitimate Eastern Conference contender with Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen. After years of insisting that his young talent would bring back veteran stars, Ainge delivered with Garnett. Without a contract extension, though, the 31-year-old Garnett could opt out of his deal next summer when he's scheduled to make $23 million.

The draft night deal that sent the No. 5 pick to Seattle for Ray Allen allowed the Celtics to keep their most important trading chips: the 22-year-old Jefferson and Ratliff, whose expiring deal helps Minnesota regain some salary cap flexibility.

A Minnesota native and current resident and huge KG fan, it sucks to see him go, but I don't have a problem with getting something for him while we still can. Jefferson and G. Green sounds very nice, along with Ratliff's contract expiring. I hope the swap of first rounders will find a way to work out in Minnesota's favor. With telfair and gomes too...I mean how do the t-wolves get rid of some of these guys. Hopefully Hudson and Jaric will be gone now.

I want KG to win a ring. They'll contend for the playoffs in Boston, but there's no way they'll win a ring with their current lineup. I guess he'll have to opt out next summer. Too bad, I was hoping he would go to the Warriors. KG can be the best player in the NBA any year under the right circumstances. Consistent, and plays with as much heart as anybody, including Iverson. KG to the Warriors 2008! I wish.

You can give up ten players with potential for Garnett and it makes sense. He still has a solid 5-6 years left and if the Celtics can keep him Ray and Paul together oh my!

WOW! Boston would have to be the favorites to win the East if they're healthy. With Allen (32), Garnett (31) and Pierce (29), they could contend for at least the next three or four years - if they can re-work Garnett's contract. It doesn't matter who is on the court with them.

Garnett is finally going to get to show if he can contend for a title. If he doesn't do it with this group he never will. If Shaq and Wade are healthy, the Boston group jells, the Pistons make strides with there young talent like they should and the Bulls Tirus Thomas can crack the Bulls starting lineup than good luck getting past the first round of the playoffs Cavaliers.

The Celtics are giving up to much for Garnett, Al Jefferson and Green and Gomes and a draft pick is crazy. If Gomes a draft pick and Theo and Telfair weren't enough what the hell is Danny Ainge doing to this franchise. From developing the young he turns around and wants an instant winner, for what to save his job???? This is B.S. Garrnett is great but giving away the house is dummmmmmmmm. Danny go to were Pinto went away.

Arguably the worst move in the history of the NBA on all accounts. First, KG has done so much for MN for the past 12 years (their only recent problems in the past few seasons were due to McHale and poor decisions made) and this is how they repay the man?? Sending him to Boston, last year's second worst team in the NBA? So what Boston has Allen and Pierce, now all three players are in their 30's, past their prime years. Garnett is a man deserving a fair shot at an NBA title so he should have gone to a team who is a contender like Chicago in the Eastern conference. Instead, he will play for Boston and won't see the light of a championship ring in years to come until he is traded again and even older. MN on the receiving end got four scrap players. McHale's an idiot. I feel bad for KG, he's a respectable player and should not have been dumped in hopeless team.

Awful deal for the C's. Yeah, let's trade all our young talent this year so we can win a few meaningless games. If we could do this deal and keep Gomes, I'd be happy to lose Jefferson and Green. But not all three. Terrible.
Ainge should've sent Pierce packing and built the future around Gomes, Jefferson, Rondo, and Tony Allen.

Not that they were necessarily offered, but Shawn Marion, Boris Diaw, Marcus Banks, and (former Suns) Kurt Thomas or James Jones, plus Atlanta's first round pick next year sure seem like a better deal than what they got for the Big Ticket. McHale has been snookered again!

I am greatly excted about K.G. coming to Boston. It's about time that Danny Ainge start doing something right as GM. I have been a Cealtics fan since the days of Bill Russell, John Havlicek, Bob Cousy, and a host of other greats.... especially one golden eagle that goes by the name of Larry Bird. LOOK OUT LEAGUE...... HERE COME THE CELTICS. We're looking for #17 to hang from the rafters.

I'm just sick over this trade. The Celtics and their fans should be smiling ear to ear. The Timberwolves got Jefferson and, no disrespect, he's not going to fill Kevin's shoes! The timberwolves have NEVER had a trade that paid off in the long run and this'll be no exception. Maybe the T-Wolves can schedule Hill-Murray High School for the next season. They might be able to be competitive for one game that way.

Way to sell your future again Boston. This is just like trading pick that could have been Andre Miller or Shawn Marion for Andrew Delquerk or the Rodney Rodgers for Joe Johnson trade. Now, instead of having a good young core of Jefferson, Green, Rando, West, Gomes, the number 5 pick and whoever we could get for Pierce, we have Rando and a bunch of geezers who have at best 4 years to win a championship and almost certainly will not. See Iverson in Denver. I'm officially done with this team. They've sold their future too many times for me to concern myself with them anymore. Go Blazers!

I was counting on Chris Mullin to pull this blockbuster trade and aquire Garnett. Because I think he is the definition of a true Warrior. Maybe Next year. Mchale will be fired soon or run out of town.
