In the midst of all of Glen Davis'(notes) celebrations and slobbering, his little buddy Nate Robinson(notes) decided he'd like to get involved with the festivities. A foot shorter and a hundred pounds lighter, Nate hopped on the back and shoulders of Big Baby for a little piggyback ride around the parquet floor of TD Garden in Game 4. It was, like, SO cute.
Not only were the two confidently expressing their bromantic feelings during the game, they were also playing a key role in the Celtics' series-evening victory. And since they played a big part in an NBA Finals win, the two Boston reserves got to share a table at the postgame press conference. It was there that the two debuted their comedy act. From ESPN's Chris Forsberg:
"You were on my back?" Davis asked Robinson as they sat next to each other at their joint postgame news conference.
"You didn't even notice," replied Robinson. "We're like Shrek and Donkey. You can't separate us."
Davis smiled broadly and added, "You shouldn't have let us two get up here."
Quite the contrary, Glen. I think we're all very glad you two were up there, cracking wise and marketing Dreamworks pictures. I'd say the people who let you two up there made a pretty good choice.
It was also a pretty good reference by Nate Robinson, even if it kind of revealed him to be the only 26-year-old who paid to see "Shrek Forever After." He could have gone with Buzz Lightyear and Woody from the "Toy Story" franchise, but that doesn't really make sense because neither of them wears a spacesuit. Another good analogy would have been Sulley and Mike Wazowski from "Monsters, Inc.," but that came out almost 10 years ago.
Shrek and Donkey is perfect — it fits, it's current and it makes for a great Photoshopped picture. Clearly Nate Robinson would be an excellent blogger. Let's make this happen.
