The NBA announced today that the once-outspoken Washington Wizards guard has been fined a cool $25,000 for failing to make himself available to the media for interviews. (The Wizards organization was also fined $25,000 for "failing to ensure that its players comply with NBA media interview rules.")
According to Digital Sports Daily, Arenas hasn't spoken to the media since Sept. 28, the Wizards official media day. (Though Ball Don't Lie records show that he did exchange a few quick words with his TNT cabdriver, Rainn Wilson, earlier this week.) On Oct. 2, a Washington Post reporter approached Arenas about his recent finger injury and the guard replied, "I'm not talking. I'll see you guys media day next year."
This new "silent treatment" marks the second year in a row that Arenas and the Wiz have been fined for him not speaking. He didn't speak on media day last season, which led to a $15,000 fine for both parties.
Needless to say, Arenas has declined to comment thus far. (Zing?)
Stay strong, Gil!
