Ball Don't Lie - NBA

Houston at Miami

Apologies all around, but there aren't a lot of great games worth taking in tonight.

Milwaukee/Orlando seems like it could be a close one, the Bucks are playing defense, Orlando's offense is kind of iffy, but Michael Redd's status forces me to pass on recommending it to the sorts of people that are commenting on our Power Rankings.

(By the way, it does sting a little when the mugs don't seem to get what Skeets and I write on other posts, and while I wouldn't want to speak for Skeets, I did read the entire comment section of this post while pumping my fist. In a happy times sorta way. Power Rankings are for troglodytes, so if we're getting it wrong, that means we're getting it right.)

Beyond that, Philly/Charlotte is worth keeping half an eye on, half of the Bulls are in Utah to take on half of the Jazz, Sacramento/Portland not so much, and Hornets/Clippers probably ... eh, not so much.

So, while I don't like asking you to watch the Rockets again, a Houston/Miami matchup seems the most interesting to me. Plus, what other matchup would leave you with an excuse to post a picture of Rony Seikaly dunking on Hakeem Olajuwon. Sure, there might be some Raptors/Magic games coming up, but the picture wouldn't have the same panache. And while I don't want to speak for Skeets again, the man has four names. And his second middle name is "Panache."

Not saying it's going to be the closest, if either of these teams walked by 22 I wouldn't be surprised, but this contest does feature two team trying to pull away from their own particular early season malaise. And I have a feeling that the Heat are a lot better than what they've shown us.

Houston Rockets: 9-5, 89.1 possessions per game (25th), 103.8 points scored per 100 possessions (20th), 100.3 points allowed per 100 possessions (5th). Roll With It.

Miami Heat: 7-6, 91 possessions per game (18th), 108.6 points scored per 100 (8th), 104.2 points allowed per 100 (10th). Country House

I'm not sure if this picture does any justice to Olajuwon.

The question I have is where do the troglodytes rank Captain Caveman and Fred Flintstone?

Rony's still courtside for almost every game, but alas, R.I.P. the Miami Arena and "luxury booths" seven stories above the actual game.

universitys like northwestern and stanford should cut academic requirements for their football and basketball programs if they want to be competitive and reap the reward. they can site that having good athletic talent is just as important to the school as good students. having 10 or 20 students with 1000 sat scores will not drive down their reputation considering there are thousands of freshman. if a school like stanford or northwestern can get top players like julio jones or michael crabtree, they should waive all academic requirements. they will reap the benefit of having good sports programs. but i dont think top notch talent would want to go to their schools because they can go to big 12 or sec schools and be apart of top ranked teams. these top notch academic schools want talent much worse than top notch athletes want to commit to their program.

What is with Scott Skiles? Sessons should be starting along with Villanueva. Both are better than the Ridnour and Mbah a Moute at their postion. Skiles messed up the Bulls now hes gonna do the same to the Bucks. He trys to be a dictator with a little man complex. Start Villanueva and Sessons!

Fun NBA fact: Otis Thorpe was named NBA Player of the Week for the week ending February 4, 1991. Rony Seikaly has no such distinction. GO ROCKETS!

so KD, your articles are meant for a very niche audience? you are pleased that most people don;t get your exalted and pop-culture-centric articles? thats a great attitude for a writer to have. the people who don;t understand your article probably don;t deserve to be on the internet anyway. is that what you and JE tell each other as you tuck each other in every night....

Pop-culture? You're talking to the biggest square this side of Allen Sherman. That's as close as I get. 1962. Allen Sherman. I'm a nut.

What a joke. Now he's insulting his readers. Nice touch. Enjoy unemployment.
Here's a start: Grow up and be objective, then maybe we can tolerate you more. If you're going to write power rankings, at least try to outdo the average person on a RealGM message board. You sound like some emo guy hired from a coffee shop who hates his job.
    Get your act together.

I think what KD is trying to say is that he feels like Power Rankings shouldn't be taken seriously in general. Power Rankings aren't the end all be all, and people always treat them like it. They are just someone's opinion, and people always get up in arms about them. It's obvious by their rankings that he and Skeets aren't really taking them seriously, and that's the point.
