Ball Don't Lie - NBA

Cleveland (3-3) at New York (1-4)

Cross-promotion helps, sometimes, but you still need to be bashed over the head with it sometimes. Sometimes you forget the motivation, even when it should be completely and utterly obvious.

Like last night, when TNT reminded us that ESPN was showcasing a Cavaliers-Knicks game on Friday night, I just assumed it was a ratings grab. A championship contender versus a team that draws in the entire tri-state area. Makes sense in November.

Then, a day later, someone reminds you of the real reason. Ah, shirt. We're back to this again? James to the Knicks?

It's the only time this season James visits New York City, so we're supposed to assume that this is some sort of on-court pitch job. LeBron's Yankees have a championship parade on Friday, the Madison Square Garden rims are supposed to be as inviting as ever and the Knicks will have 48 minutes to inform LBJ that there are, indeed, two "L's" in "Gallinari."

The Knicks like to run, the team is fifth in the NBA in possessions per game, so they have a chance against the Cavaliers -- a team that played and lost last night.

Beyond that, this is going to be annoying. So annoying. Get ready for three hours of "analysis" from people who have absolutely no clue when it comes to salary-cap space, endorsements, LeBron's motivations (because nobody, at this point, has any clue) or Cleveland's own impending cap freedom.

You know how they tell you that the odd glass of red wine can actually be healthy for you? This might be the night to get really, really "healthy."

Comment away during the game below and check back after the contest for continued analysis and reaction to James' lone trip to NYC.

Hey KD, where do you get the great pictures? Does Yahoo have a deal with Getty Images? Where would you recommend that someone looking for images for a basketball blog search? Google Images can be frustratingly limited sometimes. Thanks

Actually Kelly, yahoo just recently ran an article, citing a recent study, that that occasional glass is, in fact, unhealthy.

Post #8 - Very interesting. I would like to see that happen. Not sure Wade and LeBron would take less money (I doubt the Cavs can/would pay them both max or if they are even allowed to do that) to make it happen but that would be a very dynamic team.

The game to pay attention to is between a 1-4 team and one that is 3-3, what up with that? There is some much better ball playing going on tonight than this game...

It's begun........LeBron-mania in New York! This is all a massive tease as LeBron will drop a million hints but never directly imply that after the Cavs lose in the playoffs (I wonder if they'll even get there this year, no on-court chemistry with Shaq) he is shipping up to the Empire State. Who knows what LeBron is going to do? Who cares. Let's settle this all in the summer of 2010.
    Go Celtics!!!

IF James was white, he'd just be another Manu or Dirk.
Enough of this media story on where he'll be next year. We have this every year and its just feeds his ego.
He still hasn't earned a championship ring inspite of the superstar break he gets from the NBA and referees.

who cares?!? oh yeah, almost forgot, those knicks fans care, who always dream to be a champ again... but anyway, if these what you think will give you a run for the nba champ or even east champ. you better think twice, perhaps you can take lbj, then add bosh on your team, then a good pg... sadly your nate is one pretty dumb player. point guard, hmm, might as well take kidd or nash. then wolah! you have your own set of big three, though i doubt they can match up our celts big three, you know why? bec. celts big three, includes big sacrifices such as payroll, workload and playing time.. things i doubt that lbj nor bosh nor wade can handle, though i cant blame them bec their still in their prime years and need to build or break records.

Lechump and fat shaq are losers!! They couldn't get by the Bulls last nite.If Lechump is so great why doesn't he carry the Cav's on his back? Because he can't he is just your ordinary average ball player. Please all of you sports writers that don't have nothing better to do than to compare Lechump to the GREAT KOBE there is no comparison! Kobe carried his team on his back 2 games in a row into overtime and scored a easy 41 points both nights.Lechump can't come throgh like KOBE and carry his team.If you want to compare Lechump to some one i habve got a idea? Compare him to that loser MJ that never had any competition when he won his championships and everyone says he did it all himself.Really? Rodman,Pippen,Kerr.Kukoc do i need to say more and they still didn't play anyone excpt for guys that where washed up.Lets get real people the Celtics are to old and they will burn out in 60 games or less and injuries will sit in.The LAKER'S has the best player ever in KOBE BRYANT and with Bynum healthy and Pau Gasol coming back and Odum and with the addition of Artest you all are in dream land. The Lakers will repeat like it or not and Lechump you will never win a NBA Championship unless you play for the Lakers and they don't want you!!!!! LAKER'S 2010 NBA CHAMPION'S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
