You know, I like to think we had some small part in this ...
EA Sports has officially announced the rebirth of the arcade classic, NBA JAM. As tweeted (and reported elsewhere) last week, the game is being developed exclusively for the Wii console. (BOOM-SHAKA-LA— wait, the Wii? Ugh. I hope my seven-year-old cousin likes LeBron James(notes) helicopter dunks.)
"NBA JAM is one of the most recognizable franchises in videogame history," said Peter Moore, President, EA SPORTS. "Diehard fans of the original game have been asking for a remake for more than a decade. We're very excited to give them their wish this year with the return of this iconic franchise."
Featuring gameplay that is true to the original — no word on whether Horace Grant will host the halftime report again — NBA JAM will have players spinning with ankle breaking moves to the basket and on the way to high-flying, backboard-smashing dunks. In addition to the classic experience, NBA JAM will also introduce new game modes, characters (EA, put The Jones in it!) and gameplay depth.
But here's the best part: You can vote for the players in the game. That's right; you have until Jan. 18th to vote on which three Kings, Clippers and Thunder you'd like to play with. Your options are:
Kings: Tyreke Evans(notes), Jason Thompson(notes), Spencer Hawes(notes), Beno Udrih(notes), Kevin Martin(notes) and Andres Nocioni(notes). (My picks: 'Reke, Martin and ... um ... an Omri Casspi "write-in" vote.)
