Donovan's magic act

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Billy Donovan has accepted a guaranteed five-year, $28.5 million offer to become the Orlando Magic's new head coach, according to a league source.

The Magic offered the contract -- which will pay Donovan $5.7 million a year -- on Wednesday. The 42-year-old had a 24-hour window to make a decision.

In other NBA coaching news, Chicago Bulls assistant Jim Boylan will interview with Lenny Wilkens about the Seattle SuperSonics' head coaching opening on Friday.

Now if ownership and management will just let this man coach this team and let them win. I sure hope they get a perimeter shooter who can actually score to complement Dwight Howard.
    Kobe? How about it?

Now I know why Donovan wouldn't talk to KY, he was already talking with the pro teams.

Cmon, the dude has it licked already. He is already loaded and makes millions each year. UF has a better chance of another championship in the next 5 years than the Magic. My bet is he stays. UF will up the ante and Donovan comes to his senses.

How many college coaches have become great NBA coaches? I don't know the answer, I'm just curious.

Taking this deal is a good decision, but he screws all the recruits who he brought in to Florida after he decided not to take the Kentucky job. I heard somewhere that he even showed a recruit his Florida contract to sell him that he was not going anywhere. To leave Florida now is a lose-lose situation. If he stays then he losses out on 28.5 million. If he goes then he has shown his true colors and he is not a man of his word. He losses respect and integrity. So if he takes the job then we have identified how much Billy Donavon soul is worth.

the biggest issue that i have with this move for Bill Donovan is that with all the success he had with the Gators is he ready for 82 games a season is he ready for that kind of grind where as college game is five months also I don't know if he is ready for the NBA he has to make this decision carefully because what he doesn't want is his name to be included with John capriotti when he left the college school I don't recall and went to the NBA and that didn't pan out.

I have no idea why he's going. He already makes 3mill a year at UF..how much money do you need. He's gonna be like every other college coach that went pro and lose 50% of his games. Cant believe he's doing this..as a gator fan myself.

If somebody gave me an opportunity to make 28 million, to coach or do whatever. I would take it. Plus the players he is coaching are about two years removed from the collage ranks collage. Best of luck to him He is going to do great he also does not have to leave Florida.
