Nets point guard Devin Harris(notes) was called for a flagrant-2 foul and ejected in Tuesday's night game against the Cavaliers after wrapping his arm around Jamario Moon's(notes) face and neck and pulling him to the ground when Moon went up for a breakaway dunk.
LeBron James(notes) immediately tried to quiet the incident by bear-hugging Harris.
"At that point, he was just trying to break it up," Harris said of LeBron's involvement. "I don't like too many people grabbing me in a huddle like that, but he knows I ain't trying to hurt anybody. But he has to protect his teammates just like everybody has to do on my team. [...] I wasn't trying to [hurt him.]"
Shaquille O'Neal(notes) also got into the mix, jawing and pushing his way toward the scrum.
"It was a hard foul," O'Neal said. "I just wanted to make sure nobody got into a squabble. A grab here, grab there, everywhere a grab-grab."
A grab-grab? I don't even know what that means.
Despite the tumble, Moon held no grudges against Harris post-game: "I've never known him to make dirty plays. I don't think it was dirty at all. It was a basketball play. It wasn't as bad as it looked."
In the end, I have to agree with Brian Windhorst of The Plain Dealer in that the flagrant-2 looked to be the correct call. Harris didn't go for the ball, he hit Moon in the head, and Moon fell awkwardly.
Yes, it looked bad, but I don't think it was intentional or malicious.
But what do you think?
