Ball Don't Lie - NBA

Mark Cuban has some fatherly/owner-ly advice for Josh Howard after his star forward made some off-the-cuff, PG-13 remarks (caught on video) about "The Star-Spangled Banner." Cuban, via the Dallas Morning News: "'... we will be going through some advanced communication-skill sessions together this training camp. I have explained to [Howard] that cellphone cameras are not your friend and that what you think you said on camera is never what people will hear when it shows up on YouTube or TV. There is only one universal response that works: 'Both teams played hard.'" Good advice, Cubes. But I'd also add the excellent: "We're taking this one anthem at a time."

I'm sorry, I do not feel that Josh Howard has the right to disrespect the National Anthem just because he is black. That is one of the dumbest remarks I have ever heard. To sit there and basically disrespect your country is offensive. This guy is playing basketball in America making millions of dollars and has the nerve to do that! He has just spit in the face of every African-American who has fought and died for this country, every African-American who has represented the United States in sports and other venues, and basically spit in the face of all African-Americans in general. If he does not like it here in our beloved country (which I believe is the greatest in the world), maybe he should go live in Korea, China, or Iran. Then he will know what happens when you disrespect your country.

Josh Howard does not matter to anyone about anything outside of the ball court. Skeets had a nice link to a blog about this very topic, and I agreed with the author's perspective. Howard is an idiot off the court, simple as that. He doesn't know how to convey his thoughts properly, either that or he doesn't fully grasp what comes out of his own mouth. However, so what if J. Ho doesn't respect the anthem? Is J. Ho part of either Republican/Democrat campaign? Nope. Is J. Ho making decisions on taxes and where that money goes? Nope. He simply does not matter off the court to any of us, and any further discussion about this is giving it the validation it so does NOT deserve.

I think it's weird that nobody is upset that all these people are not showing any respect to the word disrespect. You do know it's not a verb, right?

I am not surprised that cuban didn't say anything negative about howard. cuban advised him to watch what he said because you never know who has a cell phone camera rolling. cuban funded that disgusting anti-American movie "redacted" so i'm not surprised that he didn't get on howard for his comments. Hopefully howard and cuban will pay the price for their mouths and actions in the supposedly conservative Dallas area.

@ Brian L: Disrespect is both a verb and a noun. What the heck are you talking about? Was that supposed to be a joke?
    "I have no disrespect." Noun.
    "I disrespect authority." Verb.
Maybe you should look up something BEFORE you post it? Just a thought.

I am a Dallas Mavericks fan...I am really dissapointed in J-Ho. I was pissed when I heard about his bday party the night after we lost to the Hornets..and then the pot scandal. I'm just tired of this guy draggin our image down and not focusing on his job..WINNING basketball games. He has so much potential to continue to be an all-star but know he is just a stupid arrogant mediocre player. I was hoping we could dump him off in a trade for Iggy....but there goes that...

REALLY?: "I do not feel that Josh Howard has the right to disrespect the National Anthem just because he is black." What kind of nonsense is that? ANYONE has the right to disrespect anything they want in this country, whether they're black, white or pink. How much money someone makes is irrelevant. Dissent is a fundamental right. Period. You don't like it? Don't watch him play. Grow up people. This isn't Wiemar Germany.

Josh is an idiot, major distraction and quite immature. He is so overrated. How i wish cuban would have traded his pot-smoking butt to sacramento for ron artest. He was such a wuss during the playoffs and did not justify all the money mark was paying him.

Good thing he lives in a country where he won't be killed for that kind of disrespect. I don't think it has anything to do with him being black, just an over paid and over rated moron!

Big Bird said all that needs to be said, but come one guys... it is OBVIOUS that Josh is joking around in the video.
If you want to get up in arms over someone disrespecting the national anthem, look up a video of the girl who sung it in Dallas on Monday night...
ps - if you think Josh Howard is one of a scant few player(s) in the NBA (or any professional sports league for that matter), or God forbid... the ONLY ONE, who smokes marijuana on occasion... WAKE UP! Seriously... and even if you want to blast him for it, I hope you get equally irked every time a guy gets a small fine and no media uproar for a DUI (part of an activity, which unlike smoking marijuana, can kill people when done to excess).

to # 7. weimar germany was a free democratically elected goverment that occurred after the fall of the kaiser in ww1. it's goverment failure due to oppresive financial moves by france and britain to pay back war reparations directly led to severe inflation(as seen in zimbabwe now). this spiral led to the rise of hitler and facism. learn your history first before making such ludicrous comments. look it up if you wish. in weimar germany you could voice dissent. in nazi germany you would be killed for dissent.

um he is still a person living in the united states of america; and we are all afforded the right of free speech. you might not agree with what he has said or done; but he has that right to say it.
if you want things dictated to you, what can and cant be said. i would suggest moving to another country where free speech is not an option.
you people act like everything is g-rated in the usa. look around at the stuff on tv and the movies; drug use is a very huge factor in stuff everywhere. people will always talk before they think.
grow a backbone...or change the channel. no one says you have to support what he does.

I'm black and am truly ashamed of what Josh said. I am a die hard Mavs fan. When we drafted him it was because of the teams determination that he was mature and had character but he has shown very little over the past 2 seasons. He should think about doing and saying all the stupid things he wants to in the privacy of his home and stay away from every camera he can. Cell phone or TV!! Instead of trading Devin Harris we should have traded him for a player who will show up when it counts.....in the playoffs and not just be a regular season star.

Would someone please tell me where in the Constitution or the Bill of Rights the word "offend" is. I have searched and cannot find it. And, like Justice Suitor said, "Hurting someone's feelings is still not against the law". So, whether I like what he said or not, I have only two words for everyone: BUZZ OFF! If you don't like him, don't watch him or his team.

Jim J, great job with the post dude. Honestly, i bet 98% of the people posting here could care less about what Howard does when he's not playing. Even though he has youth basketball camps during the summer and does other stuff to help kids, no one cares. But yet, they react as tho its their little brother on tv doing this stuff. Get a grip folks. He's human just like the rest of us.
