Ball Don't Lie - NBA

My friends and family always ask me why I like Brad Miller(notes) so much. It's kind of a weird question, almost like being asked to explain why you think Cinnamon Toast Crunch is such a good cereal (cinnamon milk, duh). But really, the answer I give sums things up pretty well — he seems like a normal guy who just happens to be very, very tall so he decided to play basketball in the NBA. When you factor in his hilarious celebrations, brutal And 1 tattoo and confoundingly effective offensive repertoire, the reasons someone would like Brad Miller are pretty self-evident.

However, I think I have a new answer that explains my Miller fandom even more succinctly — he wore a team-issued polo shirt and camouflage shorts to his first Houston Rockets press conference. From Jonathan Feigen at the Houston Chronicle:

"It's been a long time coming," Miller said. "It almost happened 12 years ago, and ever since Rick [Adelman] got here, I wanted to come down here. He has been my favorite coach with his whole system."

An avid outdoorsman, Miller wore camouflage pants to Tuesday's news conference. (Ed. note — Nope, they're shorts.)

"Texas in general — I feel like my personality needed to be in Texas at some point," he said. "From day one, I told my agent (Mark Bartelstein) this is where I wanted to be."

OK, fine. If Brad Miller isn't going to be a Bull, I'll admit that Houston seems like a pretty great fit for him. I mean, this is a guy who won a Sportsman Choice Award for a television show he stars in called "Country Boys Outdoors" that has featured him hunting bears in Canada. Getting to shoot critters whenever he wants, plus playing for his favorite coach in a system that values his weird skills? It's perfect. Not to mention, playing with Yao Ming(notes) is really going to open the enormous Chinese market up for him, since he's a very marketable NBA superstar.

I'm definitely going to miss Brad Miller being on the Bulls, but it seems like he's going to be very happy in Houston. All I've ever wanted is for him to be happy.

digg delicious

It's Miller time! Good luck to your bench career in Houston big guy. You were being "horned" by D-Rose and the Bulls!

Brad Miller is a great guy. Very down to earth with a level head on his shoulders. He always had time to sign autographs for the fans and interact with them. Brad has been a hard worker on the floor and an excellent ambassador for the NBA. I applaud his move and wish him the best! Ty

Brad is a unique case. You know he can be helpful to any team (although this new contract is totally OVERPAID due his age), but you just hate his decision making, stupid mistakes and poor stamina on court. I'm happy and sad at the same time that you left my Bulls.

I'm glad Miller is coming to Houston, but maybe someone should tell him that Houston is very urban and there are no bears or other critters running around with the exception of the zoo.
