Ball Don't Lie - NBA

Ball Don't Lie's Two-on-Two All-Star Tournament never sleeps. (No idea what I'm talking about? Click here.) Note: First-round match-ups were determined based on the teams' conference records as of Feb. 5 ...

Allen Iverson and 'Sheed vs. Gerald Wallace and Okafor. I'm not sure what to make of this match-up. On one hand, I like the Bobcats' size and defense, which barring injury, should be a nightmare for the Pistons. On the other hand, AI. Was he not created for a create-your-own-shot, with space type tournament? What do you think? Which team advances to the next round?

A quick reminder of our hypothetical rules: half-court, offense calls the fouls, "winners out" to eleven (by ones and twos, natch), and you've got to win by two. Also, no jeans allowed.

And if you're in the creative mood, leave us a short description of how you think this battle would unfold. Who jumps out to the early lead? Who nails the game winner? We'll include the best write-ups in the next round.

Voting will remain open until late Sunday night.

POLLS CLOSED / WINNER: Iverson and R. Wallace — 77% (2,594 votes)

I don't see how the Pistons would win this matchup. Allen Iverson would be guarding Gerald Wallace...I mean, how in the WORLD is AI gonna stop him? Wallace would absolutely kill Iverson. Then on defense, Wallace is still capable of guarding Iverson because of his quickness and shot-blocking ability. Even if Iverson beats Wallace, he still might get a block from behind, or else Okafor will swat it. Then you've got the matchup of Sheed and Okafor. Sheed is a tough cover for Okafor because he can shoot the 3, but he's not gonna make every one of them, and when they get on the inside, they're pretty equal.
    Bobcats 11, Pistons 9.
    Wallace - 7 points, Okafor - 4 points.
    Iverson - 6 points, Sheed - 3 points.

Pistons in a landslide in this one. Iverson takes Wallace off the dribble on every possession, and once Okafor starts doubling down, Iverson dishes it out to Sheed for the "two." With the score at 5-2 Detroit, Iverson pokes Wallace in the arm and GW goes down with a fractured upper arm and torn bicep. Charlotte then subs in Raja Bell, who still can't stay in front of Iverson, but hits a couple deep shots to keep it close late. Pistons win 11-8. Final play: Iverson crosses up Bell, then kicks out to Sheed who banks in a deep two off the glass over an outstretched Okafor.

It's no question at all, its definitely the Detroit Pistons over the Bobcats, especially when Sheed and A.I. can hit the outside shot.

Gotta go with Detroit, mainly because neither G. Wallace nor Okafor can really create off the bounce.

It's not so much about basketball logic and more about who are the two grizzled old veterans who also have a streak of freakish skillfulness.

I feared it's a blowout voting-wise, but Gerald and Okafor have no problems in this one. G-Force shuts down Iverson and Wallace gets himself a technical or seventy-five.

This one's a close one. Okafor wins the tip, but Wallace can't drive on Iverson and settles for shooting over him with some success, Okafor also works the post with some success, while the Pistons let Iverson work on Wallace off the dribble and try to draw Okafor off Sheed, who is spotting for various 15 footers. The Game goes back and forth a lot due to Wallace's defense on Iverson and spotty jump shot.
Wiht the game 7 - 7 Detroit Wallace forces a bad shot for Iverson and Okafor rebounds. When Okafor again misses on a post up of Sheed Wallace decides to stop feeding him the ball. After Sheed hits a jumper Gerard strips Iverson going to the basket and tries driving on Iverson. Iverson strips the ball and buries a two. Then he beats Wallace for a clean drive and loops the shot over Okafor to win the game.

Pistons only because this is exactly the type of game that Iverson would thrive in... as opposed to the NBA.

But who's AI going to guard? Bobcats win by relentlessly posting Wallace on AI.

I'm surprised voting is so lopsided on this one. AI is fast and has an isolation game, but usually that game isn't against guys like Gerald Wallace. If the outside game isn't working for the Pistons, their game is dead in the water. I'm going with Bobcats on this one, just because Wallace and Emeka will hold down the paint.

I like Detroit as a sleeper to win it all. As you said, AI's game is perfectly suited to a 2-on-2 tournament and this seems like the type of thing about which I could imagine 'Sheed getting really competitive.

Game starts, Gerald roughs up AI and scores on him.
Sheed gets pissed because he thinks that was an offensive foul, but can't call it because offense calls the fouls. Sheed then loses his mind, again, because offense calls the fouls, Okafor calls him for two technicals in a row, and the Bobcats win the match.

Pistons. If Sheed can control his temper and not get a technical, him and ai could beat Charlotte handily.

What a lousy matchup. A couple hall o famers, AI and Rah Sheed, against a couple of non-allstars G-Wall and Oh-Kah-4-Up-side-ya-head. How about P.P. and K.G. from the Celtizzles agains the Piz-Tons. Much better game!!! I wanna know who's better K.G. or Rah Sheed, one on one. Maybe replace Rondo with P.P. so that nobody complains about the height. Wow!! that's a game Buddy.

AI crosses Gerald. Gerald drops and gets a concussion.
Sheed scares the hell out of okafor with his, I could be a crazy hobo if I take off this jersey look, and recieves a pass down low. Sheed elbows Emeka and dunks it on his head.
Gerald is down, Emeka calls for an ambulance, AI and Sheed win it by way of being wayy too gangster for the league.
