Ball Don't Lie - NBA

Ball Don't Lie's Two-on-Two All-Star Tournament never sleeps. (No idea what I'm talking about? Click here.) Note: First-round match-ups were determined based on the teams' conference records as of Feb. 5 ...

Joe "The Armadillo Cowboy" Johnson and Josh "Smoove" Smith vs. Danny "Batman" Granger and Mike "The 'Stache" Dunleavy Jr. We really ought to get a Buffer to introduce this battle. (Note: The Hawks are my dark-horse team, please vote accordingly. Or not.)

A quick reminder of our hypothetical rules: half-court, offense calls the fouls, "winners out" to eleven (by ones and twos, natch), and you've got to win by two. Also, no jeans allowed.

And if you're in the creative mood, leave us a short description of how you think this battle would unfold. Who jumps out to the early lead? Who nails the game winner? We'll include the best write-ups in the next round.

Voting will remain open until late Sunday night.

POLLS CLOSED / WINNER: Johnson and Smith — 80% (2,608 votes)

    1st.
im taking granger here.... i see joe johnson coming out COLD missing bad on his first two 3 pointers that he jacks up.
granger drives dishes out to dunleavy for an easy 3 that he knocks down.
josh smith isn't in the mood to play so he just walks home, and granger scores the rest of the points en route to a blowout.... sorry Skeets but im going with the upset

Josh Smith will block so many shots and nail enough dunks to get that Fire mode in which he can goaltend legally. Hawks will kill Pacers. Remember this game is mostly about who can block and who can hit 3s. Joe Johnson will scorch.

I gotta go w/ Hawks. Josh Smith has a good jump shot for his size, and a beast on defense, and Johnson is.. a beast.

The Hawks have the athletic edge, but when scoring is 1's + 2's, the "3-point" shooters have a distinct advantage. Dare I say they are twice as dangerous? Hawks make 9 shots, with only one 2-ball; whilst the Pacers sink 6 2-balls and move on. Either way, tough matchup for my 'Cers. Also, Granger is also known to block a shot or two.

I like the way Atlanta matches up here -- Johnson/Smith is worlds better defensively than Granger/Dun.

The Hawks jump out early, but like every Pacers game Danny gets them back in it. He plays great down the stretch, blocks a few of Smith's dunks, dishes to 'lil' Dun' for a few threes, and then gets warmed up for the three point shoot out. Johnson plays great, but Granger hits the game winer and the pacers walk of with a close victory just like all there victories.

Granger is good...no doubt about it..but he could NEVER beat both Joe and Josh by himself...
Dunleavy Jr would simply get posterized over and over by Smoove (included: summersault dunk)
    No contest...Hawks win!!!

Granger wins the tip and Smith promptly steals the ball from Dunleavy. The Pacers switch coverage a few times, but they never can stop J. Smith. Dunleavy tries three times to take a charge, forgetting Offense calls fouls. The hawks win 11 - 5 with only three possessions for the Pacers. Granger struggles to score on Smith and Johnson camps his passing lanes to Dunleavy. They work some screens for a few buckets but never really get going.
At 10 - 5 Johnson throws up a spinning fade away that looks ugly but gets jammed home by Smith for a resounding final bucket.

Smith's individual defense makes a huge difference in a two-on-two game. I'm taking the Hawks, 11-9.

I once saw Granger save a baby from a burning building while draining threes and solving social security. He can do no wrong.

granger is good, but dunleavy isn't a strong complement to back him up. the hawks take this one.
