Ball Don't Lie - NBA

I'm going to try my best to bloggy-blog blog blog tonight's All-Star festivities, so if you're around the computer box, please stop by and let me know what commercials I'm missing.

But before we get started, let's get a few predictions out of the way.

Haier Shooting Stars.
We're really all winners with this event, but I'm going to take Team Detroit -- Bill Laimbeer, Swin Cash and Chauncey Billups -- in the repeat. Billups hates to lose; it would keep him up all night. I can't wait to watch Tim Duncan worry that Popovich will be make him run lines for taking a half-court shot. "Um, guys, this is doesn't feel very fundamental too me."

Playstation Skills Challenge. Dwyane Wade has had a rough year; he needs this. Here's to hoping he dedicates his three-peat to D-Stroy.

Foot Locker Three-Point Shootout. Stojakovic will give him a run for his money (balls), but I'm sticking with Raps' gunner Jason Kapono. That man was put on this earth to shoot a basketball and take awkward photos. That's it.

Sprite Slam-Dunk. By Sunday morning, kids all across the globe will be growing wispy mustaches. Yup. I like Jamario Moon ... over the moon. This is Toronto's night, friends.

So there are my homer picks. Let's hear your winners in the comments.

It's hard to disagree with your picks. I'll only say that the Skills Challenge could very well go to Chris Paul, who probably will have the crowd behind him much more than anyone else, all night. To be contradictory, I'll take Nash in the Three-Point Shootout -- people forget how awesome of a shooter he is and though Kapono is an amazing shooter, I think Nash wants to remind everyone that he's one of the best players in the league. The Dunk Contest, I have a feeling, is going to be legendary. Moon is clearly the dark horse (did you see how little of a reaction he got, during his introduction?) and I'll take him because he has such little exposure and so few expectations weighing on him. When you expect a 50 and someone delivers it, it's not as impressive when you expect nothing and someone delivers a 50.

One man's picks (mine, to be more specific): Chris Paul, Steve Nash and Rudy Gay. D-Gibson is the man, but he can't stay THAT hot two nights in a row, can he?

For the slam dunk contest, please tell me, are the rules that to get a score you have to actually complete a dunk. If so, how can the superman attempt get scored if Howard failed to finish it, he threw it through the hoop?

Howard won the Dunk Contest by a mile. He could have completely missed the basket with one of his dunks and still deserved the win.
