BDL Bedlam, Rd. 1: Tim Duncan's bank shot vs. Jeff Van Gundy

Our completely pointless, albeit oddly entertaining, BDL Bedlam Tournament continues. Thanks to your help, we've compiled a list of 64 things that you may or may not love about the NBA and seeded them into four regions. We're unveiling all 32 first round match-ups over the course of this week, and voting will remain open until Sunday.

Up next in the Kobe Region: No. 5 seed Tim Duncan's bank shot vs. No. 12 seed Jeff Van Gundy. A closer look at the nominees:

No. 5 Tim Duncan's bank shot: Doug Haller of the Arizona Republic once described Tim Duncan's bank shot as "the librarian in a beauty pageant" and "the vanilla ice cream of basketball." That's probably being kind -- it's more like Popeye Jones and tofu. But beneath that drab cover, TD's go-to glass move really is a thing of beauty.

No. 12 Jeff Van Gundy: Former head coach Jeff Van Gundy joined ESPN in 2007, serving as an analyst alongside Mike Breen and Mark "you're better than that" Jackson. JVG cracks decent jokes, isn't afraid to bust on players and, most importantly, brings insightful commentary to the table. He also declared Duncan's bank shot "overrated" a few weeks ago, which brings a lil' extra heat to this 5-12 match-up.

    JVG has been extremly annoying on every telecast i've seen... he really makes a sub-par team of announcers much worse... I'm the furthest thing from a Spurs fan, but Duncan's glass move is $$

    JVG called, he broke down Ruemie's analysis and said his statement was lacking in both insight and evidence, as well as toughness on the glass. He also said a comment with all statement and no defense doesn't win championships.
    JVG just boxed out Tim Duncan for the defensive rebound. He forced him into an uncomfortable shot.

    As fly as the bank shot is... JVG is right. It is overrated. So I gotta go with JVG in this matchup. Also, I like busting on JVG while I watch the games, so I'm glad he's in the booth.

    Well, I like the bank shot but it isn't like THE best thing ever. As for JVG, I don't know, a lot of people thought he was biased in siding with Stackhouse when Stack and Manu got into it last night, but i thought Stack was going eye for an eye b/c Manu, king Flopper, can be annoying sometimes.

    Im not a spurs fan but thats one of the best most consistent move in the NBA and has won Four championships so Vangundy is full os S_it

    Jon barry is the worst analyst i have ever hear din my life. he is so annoying. he loves the spurs so much jus cuz his brother is in the team and he is just so annoying im wondering why hes even an analyst

    Is this serious? How can Jeff Van Gundy win this argument? Winning is eveything. Tim Duncan is a winner. Van Gundy is funny. That's it. He's wrong about this.

    heh.. am i detecting some duncan haterz just voting for van gundy, to knock him out? its gonna be funny when he makes a game winning banker against your team, that shots just $$. of all the fans that ive seen, its just the lakers fans who understand this. lakers fans know whats up, and know whats right and wrong. im a spurs fan! Go Spurs Go! BTW..They arent boring. you just think they are boring because they arent your team. i think watching a suns vs nuggets game is boring. because i know whats gonna happen! they gonna make a shot. Game depends on who makes a 3~

    I'll vote for Timmy when he stops taking 17 of an allowed 10 seconds at the free throw line (which JVG also pointed out on Sunday). I'd love for some crowd to do to him what the Sonics' crowds used to do to Karl Malone in the 90s and start counting out loud when TD goes to the line.

    Oh man! how can you vote against those road trip commercials (especially the one where they are watching Hoosiers). JVG was great in those. Tim Duncan is THEE biggest crybaby in the league and quite possibly the biggest crybaby I've ever seen in my life. It makes me want to vomit when I see him make that pouty face of his every damn time a whistle is blown.

    4 Championship Rings beats out balding, wannabe sports commentators ANY day. Timmy's bank is a thing of beauty and whoever doesn't agree is just hating because their team doesn't have a 4-time MVP on their team that plays the game like it is meant to be played... with precision and grace. As for taking longer at the line and Timmy being a crybaby... give me an f'n break. Don't hate the player, hate your team because they are LOSERS!
