Ball Don't Lie - NBA

With the NBA Draft just a few days away, Ball Don't Lie has decided to weigh in with its own 2009 Mock Draft, just for shots and giggles. But since we know so little about college basketball, we called in SB Nation's team experts (and a few others) to throw their darts at the board. Let's see what sticks ...

With the 20th pick in the 2009 Ball Don't Lie NBA Mock Draft, the Utah Jazz select ...

James Johnson: PF, Wake Forest, Soph.

SLC Dunk:

"When you pick in the 20's nearly every year, every pick is going to be somewhat of a gamble. In a year with a supposed weak draft class, it becomes that much more difficult to find a player that can contribute.

However, if James Johnson somehow falls to the Jazz at No. 20, he could end up being one of the safest picks Utah has had at that spot and the steal of the draft.

At first glance, it doesn’t seem like the Jazz need another wing player or another 'tweener.' The difference with Johnson though is that he can create his own shot, something that the current Jazz wing players struggle to do.

Johnson is a gifted athlete that has played nearly every position on offense. He’s remarkable in the open court whether he is leading the break or whether he’s on the receiving end.

His biggest weaknesses, taking poor shots and lack of focus, should be mitigated by the Salt Lake Jazz system. His defense isn’t always quite up to par given his size and length. This almost had me taking Sam Young at this spot given Utah’s recent struggles on interior defense. But at 6'9" with a 7'1" wingspan, Johnson has a little bit of play that he can work with that will cover some defensive liabilities while he improves on that aspect of his game. Anything he's lacking on D though doesn’t overshadow what he can do on offense.

If he falls to Utah, expect a quick phone call from Kevin O’Connor to David Stern. And even if Johnson turns out to be a bust, there's always the 2010 pick to look forward to.

Damn this mock draft for getting my hopes up."

Ironically the little girl's expression really reflect the decision on this pick.

Dick and #6 - you are insane. Just sign Trevor and Odom and you are set for another title. And who would want Boozer for a guy who can rebound, shoot, defend AND hit the three pointer? Boozer is good, but Odom adds a bit more. Get rid of Walton - how is he a factor again?
