Amare Stoudemire is ready to rock

Since the start of the 2008-09 season is less than 50 days away — whoa, where in the hell did the summer go? — it's about time I roll out a few "NBA wishes." They are, in no particular order: Julius Hodge returns, dominates; the Raptors make the second round of the playoffs; Jamal Crawford blogs about D'Antoni's inevitable mental breakdown; and Amare Stoudemire's career swagger returns from the ashes.

And while I have high hopes for my "JOBosh Raps" this season, it sounds as though that final "wish" may have the most realistic chance of coming true. Paul Coro at The Arizona Republic checks in with Amare:

"He is talking about and working on his defense. He declares his passion for the game to be at an all-time high, bringing him to the court morning and night most weekdays. He is raving about his new coach, Terry Porter, and teammates.

He is worry-free about his surgically repaired knees. And his good effort has extended off the court, having just returned from a week in Sierra Leone to be part of a project to rehabilitate water wells that he helped fund.

'I feel fit and fierce,' he said. 'My health is tremendous. I have no worries about extra work. Before, I never wanted to overwork. I always wanted to do more, but I was coming back from injuries. I can do whatever I want on the court without second-guessing now.'"

So just how "fit and fierce" is he? Apparently, very. Here's Amare again, this time via the East Valley Tribune:

'I'm at 2 percent body fat and 245 pounds and my (knees) ... I feel like I can do anything I want on the court again,' he said."

To put that in perspective, Dime drops this knowledge: "Karl Malone, who was called "the strongest and best conditioned basketball player on the planet," by The Sporting News, weighed in at five-percent body fat and 265 lbs. It's tough to imagine anyone being more jacked than Malone was."

I know it's mostly off-season rhetoric, but a motivated Amare Stoudemire brings me peace of mind. I can't wait for this season to start.

I'm very seriously considering moving Amare up to number 2 on my Fantasy Basketball list.

Amare averaged 25 pts, 9 boards and 2 blocks per game and was 2nd team all-NBA last year. I think his career is in full flame.
You should be wishing that Josh Howard's career returns from the ashes.

It is impossible to be at 2% body fat. The best bodybuilders in the world achieve 3% and thats only for a few hours at a time and require diueretics(sp?). So i doubt he's at 2%. 4-10% much more likely.

Amare is a stud. I believe he will dominate his peers and Phoenix will be in the Western Conference Finals this year....remember the prediction and Sean Singletarry playing in the Valley of the Sun.

Agreed. 2% is basically the digested food in his small intestine.

pre-surgery stoudemire made me a believer. the effortlessness by which he scored and attacked the rim was unlike anything i've ever seen; jumping towards the basket in a show of raw athleticism and throwing up all sorts of shots. i remember thinking; "wow, stoudemire hasn't even refined his game yet, and he's still the best talent on the court." it was like witnessing a newborn god testing the limits of his abilities - it was scary to think what he could become.

Lets see if he can get past the Spurs this year.. I doubt it. Stoudemire is a great player on a good team but they are not going anywhere...
Raza.. How does Iverson deserve a ring? Maybe when he cares more about his teamates and winning instead of his stats, he'll deserve it.
    It's the Spurs year again....

Yes, I like Amare but, he has Bynum to deal with and I don't think he is ready for Bynum. It will be a very good match-up, can't wait...

Hey Amare.....If Nash keeps hanging out with Baron (Davis) expect a few let-downs this season due to lost and misguided focus.

He still SUCKS! I hate big men that can't play DEFENSE!!!! He can score 30...but give up 35. Lakers are a better team.

Amare needs all the hype he can get, particularly with an aging Shaq hobbling down the court. The Suns owe whatever wins they'll get to Mr. Stoudemire (and the passes Nash gets to him).

2 percent seems ridiculous. There's no way that's true, and even if it is, then there's no way that's healthy. And i want to agree that AI def deserves a championship. Unfortunately for him, i don't think he'll ever get it. He's one of the top players of all time. Top three scoring guards ever(Jordan and Kobe being the others). But some of the greatest of all time never got that ring(Malone, Ewing, Reggie Miller). And just as a final thought: GO LAKERS!!!!! SUNS SUCK!!!!

bynum is still untested and it's not a matchup. it's not a matchup because amare will have to keep his newfound "defense" focused on pau. the individual matchups don't matter. the lakers are now a better team than the suns top to bottom. nash's prime is gazing at the horizon wondering how steve is so far past him and shaq is... well, i think we can all agree about shaq. amare's an amazing offensive talent but it won't matter. also, 2% body fat is impossible. so he's also a liar...

Suns still need a Small Forward. I wouldn't mind seeing the Suns go after Tom Chambers. He'd fit perfectly. Go Suns!

It's probably an exaggeration just like alot of athletes actual heights and weights are skewed, they listed barkley at 6'6" or taller his entire career and in actuality he was 6'4"-6'4.5".
All these laker fans, I've got news for you, if you think either Bynum or Gasol have the speed, agility, or defensive skill to guard Amare Stoudemire, you're smoking crack. Not only is Amare so much more athletic than either of the two Laker behemoths, he can score from distance with an incredible jumpshooting ability for a man his size. You expect either of those guys to guard him on the perimeter too given their slow lateral quickness on D? Give me a break.
As for the Spurs, I'd worry about Ginobli recovering and Duncan's age, neither of those two are spring chickens either, definitely isn't the spurs' year this year, nor was it last year, they got dominated.

I hope STAT isn't just all talk. I'm not sure if the Suns have enough weapons this year to go all the way but they should be fun to watch. The Lakers were a fluke last year and shouldn't have made it so far... the Celtics proved that. I bet Kobe will be demanding a trade before the All-Star break. Maybe he can go play with the rest of the whinners in San Antonio!

I think that the Suns lost versatility(especialy defense) when Marion got traded, but now Shaq makes the team bigger. I wonder if you could put Diaw at small foward?? I think that the 2% is either a lie, wrong math, or estimation

Some of you tards need to learn how to calculate body fat! It isn't what is in his stomach of digesting through his intestines it is a measurement of accumulated fats that collect beneath epidermal tissue. It doesn't matter what he just put in his mouth or what he's about to poop out. It is fats "collected in the body"! And I wouldn't at all doubt that when he measures body fat % he prepares in advance so I'm sure he knows some tricks - he's a pro after all.

Phil W.... your right the Lakers are a better team ( although if they don't live up to expectations its going to be hilarious listening to the socal media bashing they are gonna get), but saying Amare sucks? There isn't a single team in the league that wouldn't drool at the prospect of having him. I agree with what Richard said; can't wait to see Pau or Bynum try to guard him ( LATERAL QUICKNESS) and we already know Odom can't. Will the Suns win the chip? probably not. Will Amare Stoudemire tear through the league? You bet he will.
