This week: Mears finished eighth a year ago at Homestead for his second top-10 finish in six starts at the track. Mears is one of three drivers who have been running at the finish of every race so far this season. (Juan Pablo Montoya and David Reutimann are the other two.) "We've had some pretty good races there, and it's been a pretty good track for me," said Mears. "With this being the last race, you just tend to let it hang out a little bit more."
Last week: A costly gamble backfired for Mears and his team when he ran out of gas with less than l00 laps remaining at Phoenix. By the time he limped to the pits, got the fuel he needed and returned to the race, Mears was three laps down. As a result, he finished 27h. "It was a long day," said Mears. "We were off on the setup in the beginning of the race and that got us behind, and then (we) ran out of fuel as we hoped for a caution. It was just a long, long day."
Etc.: Mears has a busy offseason planned. In December, he and his fiancee, Trisha, are scheduled to join Jimmie Johnson and his wife, Chandra, on a five-year anniversary trip to where they got married. And then he and Trisha are to get married in January.
