This week: Mears won the pole and finished fifth at Chicagoland last year for his second top-10 finish in the last three Cup races at the speedway. He scored his first NASCAR victory at the track in 2006 when he won the Nationwide event. "This track just suited my driving style from the very beginning," said Mears.
Last week: Mears was one of the many unfortunate drivers to get caught up in an accident at Daytona as he finished 34th. "The wreck was just a case of everyone shuffling for position," said Mears. "I hate it for the 5 team. We had great momentum going from our top-five at Sonoma and our top-10 last week at Loudon. Hopefully this doesn't slow that down too much."
Etc.: Mears said, "I know that a lot has gone on lately with the team and myself. But we've all made it very clear that our focus is on this season, and our goals haven't changed. We still want to win races. I'm committed to this team for the rest of this season, and they're committed to me."
