This week: Newman, who leads 10th-place Kasey Kahne by 65 points, has no top-five finishes and just two top-10s in seven Homestead starts. Since finishing seventh in 2005, Newman has finished no higher than 18th, including 21st last year.
Last week: Newman led once for one lap during green-flag pit stops before finishing 20th. "Conditions were fine," Newman said. "I mean, the track was slick, but we really struggled in the pits with the Chevrolet. We had a bad pit stop, got in the back, Junior (Dale Earnhardt Jr.) lost control of his car and got sideways, and then I got hit and drove into him and it kind of ruined our day from that point on. We went a lap down because of the damage we had. It's just an unfortunate situation. Had a bad points day, had a bad day and a terrible pit road day. The focus next week is to try to have a good run, but we've got to do something on pit road. We come in we're guaranteed to lose three spots and these cars are so similar that driver, the crew chief and everything else that you have really can't make up for that, in my opinion."
Etc.: Newman is happy with the way his first season with his new team has worked out. "We've done a lot of great things as an organization," he said. "We've done a lot of great things as drivers to get to where we are, and for me personally to make the big change and obviously Tony (Stewart) as well -- didn't have any idea what to expect, just knew that I wanted to go out there and have fun, and if we had fun, we were going to be successful one way or another."
