This week: Montoya hopes the break in the schedule is a break for his team as it tries to get back on track. Since finishing second at Talladega in late April, Montoya has earned only one top-10 finish. As a result, he has dropped from 12th to 20th in the standings with no real shot at making the Chase. With only seven races left until the Chase begins, Montoya is 420 points back of 12th-place Denny Hamlin.
Last week: Montoya finished 18th at Chicagoland to move back into the top 20. "We just never really got our car balanced right all race," crew chief Brian Pattie said. "Our car was good for the first 30 laps (of a run), but after that we just struggled when the tires fell off. We just never could get it to drive the way we wanted it."
Etc.: Car owner Chip Ganassi won his 100th race Saturday when Scott Dixon captured the IndyCar Series event at Nashville Superspeedway. Ganassi's teams have visited victory lane 11 times this season, but none of them in NASCAR. His NASCAR teams do have 12 wins and two Rookie of the Year titles.
