The tough economy continues to hit NASCAR and today could be the last day of work for a bunch of folks association with Richard Petty Motorsports.
The team's engine shop is expected to close its doors today, according to FOXSports. RPM is keeping around enough folks to get it through the final two races of the year. After that, Roush Yates engines will be taking over the duties.
Obviously this is a result of the merger of Richard Petty Motorsports and Yates Racing. The Petty crew chiefs were apparently each told that they could keep 17 crew members for their teams. Two hundred of 250 employees are expected to lose their jobs.

Don't blame them for any unemployment changes in your area, I sure as hell wouldn't keep part of my business open if I couldn't afford to do it any longer. The way you think is that companies should provide jobs even if the company doesn't make enough to stay afloat. if you don't like the economy then blame the politiicians and the scumbags that abuse the system to get free welfare.
Unfortunately this could very well be the King's swan song, and it would be sad to see him go, hopefully it will get turned around and they will become a player in the future again. But that would require Nascar to still be around in 10 years, and at the current rate they are pissing off fans they might not make it another 5 years.

Besides, they probably have enough motors now, and after the next two races, won't be needing them anymore. Why have people build them?
I sure hope this merger does the trick, for BOTH camps.
