NASCAR - Sports Rumors

“RichardThe tough economy continues to hit NASCAR and today could be the last day of work for a bunch of folks association with Richard Petty Motorsports.

The team's engine shop is expected to close its doors today, according to FOXSports. RPM is keeping around enough folks to get it through the final two races of the year. After that, Roush Yates engines will be taking over the duties.

Obviously this is a result of the merger of Richard Petty Motorsports and Yates Racing. The Petty crew chiefs were apparently each told that they could keep 17 crew members for their teams. Two hundred of 250 employees are expected to lose their jobs.

I don't know if this merger is a good move or a bad one. Petty is gradually becoming nonexistent in NASCAR, and I'm sorry folks, but that is a damn shame. This was the first year I can remember a Petty not driving in NASCAR, and now Petty as an owner is becoming something of a joke. And this is one joke that is not funny,

Maybe Nascar can make some more rules meant to lower cost because they have done such a good job at it. Why not add some more races on 1 1/2 mile tracks that would be great. I dvrd the texas race, it took me 10 min.
to watch and I'm a big fan. Great race for Kurt I was happy for him!!
Nascar doesn't care that RPM could leave the sport they are money whores just like our polititions.

    Furiousd,
Don't blame them for any unemployment changes in your area, I sure as hell wouldn't keep part of my business open if I couldn't afford to do it any longer. The way you think is that companies should provide jobs even if the company doesn't make enough to stay afloat. if you don't like the economy then blame the politiicians and the scumbags that abuse the system to get free welfare.
Unfortunately this could very well be the King's swan song, and it would be sad to see him go, hopefully it will get turned around and they will become a player in the future again. But that would require Nascar to still be around in 10 years, and at the current rate they are pissing off fans they might not make it another 5 years.

A sound business decision for a team that has money problems. Face the cash Chrysler has put up, and the Sponsor of the week deals they have had to put togethjer hasn't put a whole lot of money oin the coffers.
Besides, they probably have enough motors now, and after the next two races, won't be needing them anymore. Why have people build them?
I sure hope this merger does the trick, for BOTH camps.

hell that that peice of crap that nascar built has got nothing in it thats from the auto industry, and the toyotas engine they let them build for their car is a freak, toyota doesn't build a stock engine,so they might as well make all the teams put jap motors in that junk then they can save more money, france is slowly killing nascar unless they go back to what made nascar great (cars and motor that the people buy)

Petty and Yates might as well close shop now because they will never make it through the 2010 season. I do wish them the best but it doesn't look good. Petty Motorsports has done better this year sense Kyle is not involved. They have three very good drivers, all they need now is the equipment.

Yes this a sad richard petty is nascar and he has always been linked with dodge now they are taking him to ford the next step is to spit in his face and kick him to the curb.if nascar lets this happen then they should all be lined up and shot. the king is nascar if he is phased out then nascar is a sad foreign sport that should not be watched by true americans

NASCAR can always go back to modified stock cars like they did in the past. Money doesn't have to dominate this sport.

I'm a big Kasey Kane fan and I hope none of this will effect him. I think the move to ford is good because I think he will get more support. Its sad our economy is so bad and that all these folks will be losing their jobs. I hope they'll be picked up by other teams. Go Kasey.

I have been a fan(win or loose) of the king from back in 1962.i'm still pulling for him as i near 70 yrs old.it's sad adam haad to die,but we all will some day.the way i understand with dodge comming back,it was dodge dealers asso. who put the money in,not chrysler. chrisler might have put in the engines & parts,i can't say for sure.if any of you remember, kiles only good days were with sabataes back in early 90's.rockingham was his best, won over $300,000 that day.but he ran out of gas on the way home in the roles-royse sabaties gave him for his feat's that day.for me it's been#43 all the way.
