One of NASCAR's top road-racing drivers, Ron Fellows, will pilot the No. 01 Dale Earnhardt Inc. Chevrolet on Sunday at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif.

Fellows, who has two career runner-up finishes in Sprint Cup road races, will sub for rookie driver Regan Smith, who is 30th in points.

"Our goal for Regan remains winning the Rookie of the Year title and building momentum that we hope will carry us into 2009," DEI vice president John Story said. "Ron has a successful history with DEI, and he certainly knows his way around Infineon. The opportunity to capitalize on his experience and abilities against some of the other road-course experts is our objective."

He shows up every year and never ends up doing anything. Said is the only road racing ace that actually runs good, and not just road racing also at Daytona.

Ron Fellows has run in fewer CUP races than Boris Said, yet he has more Top 5 finishes than Said.Said has raced in 30 CUP races and only has 2 Top5s. Fellows has raced in only 17 CUP races with 3 Top 5s. Fellows has also led more laps in the fewer races he's run then Said has..

UHHHGGGG. more ringer hype. if the cup guys are not given a chance to run the road races, guess what, they wont get experience running road races. thats why i personally hate the ringers.

lgr He's not really a ringer, he's a NASCAR driver. What wrong wrong with putting the best man for the job in the car. If you own a business and you have 2 men working for you and one is better at a particular job than the other, which one would you use. Personally, I would pick the one that is the most qualified and I wouldn't call that using a ringer. I think that getting experience is great, but when you are going for the win, you use the experienced driver.

If I had Regan Smith and Ron Fellows in my stable, I'd sure put Ron in the car for Sonoma! ; ) But it will be nice to see Boris Said run a race. I was really enjoying seeing him run like, every week, and getting interviews and all, only not so much lately.

ok thats the other side of the argument, i see the logic there. especially for teams with little to lose. But if they say smith is running for rookie of the year, wouldnt he pick up some points for that even if he had a bad finish?

#9 Rudy if you were Jr. would you want Terry coming in to sub for you since Terry is better at road racing.
How are you going to get better without doing it under race conditions

I'm not sure how the Rookie of the Year points work, but I don't think a bad finish would be helpful in that regard. Something tells me that stepping out of the car for a race won't hurt him though.

I hope Montoya gets in someone's face again this year at a road race and gets his helmet handed to him ...with his HEAD STILL IN IT!

Fellows finishes better than Said again. Thanks to Harvick, his finish wasn't better.
As for Robby Gordon. I am tired of hearing about what a great road racer he is at Infineon. With the exception of one win with RCR, he consistantly finishes worse than he starts. Instead of giving him all this raod racing credit, its time the announces start calling him the great Pretender.
