Crew members for all four DEI drivers — Mark Martin, Martin Truex Jr., Regan Smith and Paul Menard — stood on the pit wall before the race and held up three fingers in honor of Earnhardt's No. 3 Chevrolet.

Earnhardt won the 500 on his 20th attempt in 1998. In the same race three years later, he was killed in a last-lap crash.

i am in no way defending teresa,or her actions. jr did what was best for him,as well as teresa, and im sure we will all see dale back at dei in years to come. to understand her a bit more though, you have to see the movie"DALE". after being a fan of his since 79,it just may open your eyes a bit more on our hero, and what raceing ment to the both of them?i still disagree with how it all happened, but it put a different look on things.

they were not the only ones to stand. The tv crew said that all crews were asked to stand in the drivers meeting, on lap 3 and hold up 3 fingers. But as par the course the camera didn't show who did and didn't stand.

I t would have been nice to see that salute to Dale but they didnt show it. It would be nice to see Jr. be part of DEI, but im also glad he has moved on so he can make his own mark in NASCAR and i think he'll make a good one.

It was a fitting tribute to the real King Of Nascar forever ! It was not a marketting ploy , but a big deal on the 10'th anniversary of his only Daytona 500 win ! I was a little dissapointed with the pre race entertainment though ! The best of it was Brooks and Dunn . Ronnie sounded a little bit flat at times . I guess it is hard to keep that high voice for life ! For the most part the race was a good one ! Go Junior Go

Yes - 3fan4lifetx #12 - it was fitting that they let the Real King of Nascar drop the green flag. 200 wins, the first to get 7 championships, the 1st motor sports athlete to receive the Medal of Freedom, 7 Daytona 500 wins, and he won races in 7 different brand of cars. But of course you knew all that - right?

    # 12 Scott , You are right about the king Richard Petty winning and all that . Petty drove and won alot because he raced alot more races with out gunned competition ! In the years the REAL KING OF NASCAR raced King Richard could not have won as many races ! I love what the Petty family has done and have been proud for them . The real KING OF NASCAR IS AND WILL ALWAYS BE DALE SR !!!! GO JUNIOR GO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
