This week: After five top-10 finishes in seven races at Lowe's Motor Speedway, Newman has not finished better than 21st in the last five races at the track. "We tested there a couple of weeks ago, and it was one of the best tests we've had," said Newman. "If we can take what we learned and transfer it over to the race, I feel like we should have a really good night Saturday."
Last week: Newman finished 43rd (last) after encountering engine problems early in the Talladega event. "We broke a valve train or something in the engine," said Newman. "I'm not really sure exactly what happened. The car just shut off when I was coming into the pits."
Etc.: As his time with Penske Racing nears the end, Newman finds himself reminiscing. "It's cool to look back on the last eight years, and one of my favorite memories happened at Charlotte," he said. "It was my first win (2002) in the All-Star race. To beat everybody in their own backyard was incredible. It was a big win and a very special night for me."
