Waltrip parked for aggressive driving at Talladega

  • Print

TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP)—NASCAR has pulled Michael Waltrip off the track for aggressive driving at Talladega Superspeedway.

Waltrip was warned to give Jimmie Johnson some space during Friday’s final practice session as he bump-drafted behind Johnson’s car. When Waltrip didn’t let up, he was black-flagged for the final 30 minutes of practice.

NASCAR is keeping a close eye on bump-drafting this weekend, in large part because of the fallout over the harrowing accident on the final lap of April’s race at Talladega. Carl Edwards’ car was hit by winner Brad Keselowski, and the contact sent Edwards’ car airborne into the fence.

Several fans were hurt by flying debris.

hey robbie, GM and Chrysler money doesnt go anywhere - they havent had profits in over ten years and we also paid $81 billion to bail them out!
How does it feel supporting fat cat UAw members who earn more than twice what anyone else does, have been lobbying against the "gold plated health plan" tax since it would affect their plans not yours, and allowed half of their "brothers" to be laid off instead of taking pay cuts? Even now, the UAw fatcats are rejecting Ford's attempt at leveling the playing field, and will probably strike. Toyota's involvement with Nascar is probably the only thing that keeps it going ( the sooner nascar dies the better). Better get ready for GM cars made in China, they made 1 million of them last year, its only a matter of time before they send them here like their small cars they have been making in Korea.

Lets let them run the last 50 laps on foot, will give Edwards a head start because he has a bad foot, and dont forget ( no pushing or shoving ) we wouldnt want it to get exciting at the end.

Lets put Mike Helton at the front and see if he can stay there, maybe he can change the rules to include no passing . !!!!!!!!!!!! (what a joke todays race way, more exciting to watch a train go by)

as usual NASCAR gets it wrong. they are watching bump drafting becuase of the wreck in the last talladega race. bump drafting did not cause the wreck. blocking caused the wreck.

I get a kick out of all these people that hate Jimmy Johnson and pretty much all of Hendrick Motor Sports. First of all, I cannot blame NASCAR for black flagging Michael Waltrip for bumping Jimmy Johnson in practice. From what I understand he was asked to back off and evidently did not. Put yourself in Jimmy's/HMS shoes. You spend millions of dollars to set up a championship team and some 35th to 43rd place driver is going to wreck you in final practice and possibly destroy your #1 car? I know I would be barking up a storm if that was happening to me! I think that once the "Chase" begins, the practices should be broken up between the top 20 drivers and the bottom 23 drivers. That way the drivers that have something to loose will not try to do anything stupid, like bump drafting into a corner at 185 mph. Guys that have a bad teams/bad drivers are more prone to mess up and these are the guys that usually take out good drivers. As far as Chad Knaus being a cheater, I feel that if the rule is black and white and you break it then you are cheating. But, if there is a gray area and you work within those guildlines then that is not cheating, that's stretching the rules. For all you fans that don't agree, put your driver in the same situation and tell me you would still call that cheating! Racing is about being the better driver/team and if that means doing something that nobody else has done then I say kuddos to you! Great job this year #48 , #24 and #5...maybe some of your driving skills will rub off on Jr. next year!

Nascar is getting way to politicaly correct they have done a good job of making the cars safer and more equal. Now they need to go back to lettin the boys beat bang and if the mood hits fight. Nobody knows what happened between Carl and Matt after Talladega last year. Because Carl had to work that deal out in private to avoid pusscars rath. It would of made for good entertainment if he could of done it 4 TV. At least he has some balls unlike Pusscar. I don't know where all this politicly correct B. S. comes from, nobody I know thinks that way.

This really is hilarious ! I've never, ever heard of this before.NO ONE can tell me that they would have parked Waltrip had he been pushing let's say Burton or Hamlin..It's all come down to being a circus..Martin # 154,I would believe that if Mark Martin wasn't in the Hendrick stable you would feel different about how you feel Most of us are thinking Hendricks is getting some special rules with his cars..Again,If you look back and see what kind of person this man really is you'll see he's Always been Crooked.Look at what he did to the automobile industry. He was able to buy off the CEO's of Honda, buying them lavish gifts like BMW"S and what the fk else to get MOST of the inventory for His dealerships. He could have cared less if the others received any at all..Look at the times Knaus has been caught Cheating. What ,7 times already ? You can continue to live in LaLa land if you wish,Most of us are Smarter than that ! I really do hate the fact that France and Helton have had the same thing happen to them as did the other Honda dealers..You say,can I prove this ? No however, this man's past speaks for itself..Have any of you Ever heard of a man being parked in practice? I say Not...

I bet Bill France Sr & Jr are spinning in their graves, along with Earnhardt Sr,Davey Allison,Neil Bonnett and all the other great NASCAR drivers that are no longer with us,about this circus called THE CHASE.
Brian France has taken what used to be the greatest racing series in the world and turned it into a farce.
I know i sure miss the sunday's when it was real men driving real stock cars really fast. Way to go Brian France and the new NASCAR. YOU SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok 1st off to post 132 not athletes huh? Why cause they dont run back and forth throwing a ball or hit a ball with a stick?? Lets take any football baseball or any other athlete for that matter put then in a metal box withtemps up to and possiably over 120 degrees for 3 or 4 hours with no break no timeout add on the fact that at some superpeedway speeds they can pull mor than just 1 g in the turns and with all that on there body see if they can stay sharp enough to still drive near 200mph inches from another car. Im so tired of hearing this is not a sport etc etc. Do some research of the effects and conditions these drivers go through it is rougher that any other "sport" out there. As for this story no suprise Nascar golden boy jj dont get near him he needs to win his 4th so we can get the press.. Lets dump the chase for a few years and how how golden boy does. History has proven he cant win a champ.. without the chase....

    Again for most everybody

Why would NASCAR protect and rig races for a driver NO ONE wants to win.

It makes no sense. They would have a lot more to gain with rigging races in favor of Dale Jr. Jimmie does not put butts in the seats. Unless NASCAR is full of morons, I highly doubt they are fixing races, if at least for the 48.

Post 113, that I agree with.

Ultimately, to quote a basketball player, "We talkin' about practice! Not a game, not a game, not a game, we talkin' about practice!"

Even if Mikey was doing it down a straightaway, I dont think practice is an appropriate time to practice aggressive moves, even if the other guy agrees to do it with you.
