Childress again says Harvick will be back in 2010

WELCOME, N.C. (AP)—Team owner Richard Childress reiterated Monday that Kevin Harvick will be back in his car next season despite nonstop rumors to the contrary.

“We want to put the rumors behind us by stating together that Kevin will drive RCR’s No. 29 … for the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season,” Childress said in a statement.

It’s the second time in two months that Childress has publicly had to address speculation about Harvick’s future with the team, which has been scrutinized during his worst season in nine years at RCR. Winless since the 2007 season-opening Daytona 500, Harvick is currently 24th in the standings and won’t participate in this year’s Chase for the championship.

He was also involved in a late accident with teammate Clint Bowyer two weeks ago at Bristol that ended Bowyer’s Chase chances.

“While the 2009 season has not been what any of us have wanted, Richard and I are both committed to improving the performance … for the remainder of this year and the 2010 season,” Harvick said in the statement.

Harvick, who has one year left on his contract, owns a team that fields cars in the Nationwide and Truck Series. He’s said he is not interested in driving for his own race team.

they need to bring back the old car body and make it more safe like the cot, they should try that and the racing would be more exciting

Ditto, Penny. I'm proud that someone has enough sense to see the "big picture" & not just biased by the hype of a favorite driver. And NOT to be sexist in any way, but, the guys should be ashamed that they can't produce enough brain power to have a dialogue with you. Their loss, not yours. lol.
    Best wishes. "Krazy".

i appreciate that Ken-i like to think i keep up with nascar as well as i do other sports without being biased and i try to look at things realistically-i share your thought on feeling like harvicks interest seems to be going more in his team ownership than driving as he knows its getting harder as a driver to secure a good ride with sponsorship and he and his wife seem to have a really good thing going with their nationwide and cup teams as well as their relationship and at some point his career will wind on down-like you i think it just may come sooner rather than later and the economic state of the sport due to the economy contributes to that greatly-the dude can drive but can he get a top ride with a top team and adapt with the car ever changing? i just think harvicks personality isnt up for all that for the long haul and running his teams with his wife is more important as far as the future goes-i trully believe stewart wants to be among the elite as a driver and an owner and so far due to his unbelievable opportunity with the haas partnership and hendrick equip, he has a good thing going and i just see him being careful with the 3rd car decisions and kahne just makes the most sense with his contract running out at the right time with rpm and his sponsorship seems set for some years-i believe after next year SHR will put someone in a car and i cant think of anyone else that will be available other than kahne-he brings talent, sponsorship, a good attitude, popularity, he qualifies in the top 10 most of the time, he and stewart are buds with similiar interest-ill be surprised if it doesnt happen-hes the perfect fit

Penny, # 14. You show some common sense & alot of smarts. I have to agree with all that you said.

I do believe that Harvick would be a temp at SHR, but, it would warm up a team for Kahne. For some reason, I just believe that Harvick won't be in Cup that much longer. Call me krazy (lol), but, I believe that he will retire from Cup in 2 or 3 yrs. & devote all his & Delana's time & money to his other teams & interests. Just a feeling that I get.

first off-harvick has repeatedly said he isnt interested in owning a cup team-its much more difficult to have success as an owner in cup as opposed to nationwide or the truck series and drive at the same time-he has money and time invested in the other two series where its much easier to put a decent driver in a decent car and get a win-thats the same reason jr wont be an owner of a cup team-not to even metion the mainstay cup owners that have been in cup ownership 4-ever and as we all see the little guy owners hardly stand a chance week in and week out-as far as going to SHR-he is a good fit as a driver but realistically i believe since stewart and newman as well as harvick have been in the sport for as long as they have -stewart being part owner will want to get a younger, accomplished driver in a 3rd seat with his team-as close as stewart and harvick are i just think harvick has so much going on with his other teams to give SHR what they may be looking for-sponsorship is the biggest key and my gut tells me after kasey kahnes contract is up at rpm, he with the busweiser sponsorship will get that 3rd seat at SHR-kahne has done more with less resources than most any other driver and he wants to be with a team with ample chance to showcase his driving ability while he is still at his peek-kahne is pretty loyal so you dont hear much of that talk at the moment but sometime next year around this time the talk will begin and he and smoke are pretty tight as well-and keselowski???im not sure what the buzz is about-what has he shown?some success in nationwide and a dega win where by the way anyone in the top 20 in the last few laps can win just doesnt impress me-has everyone forgotten about truex jr winning the nationwide championship?what has truex done in cup?ummm-nothing!!!keselowski is talented and young but risky at the moment for cup teams and him going to penske is a decent move-he certainly should try to capitalize on his hype while he has some hype-i think he wins a few races in his career but turns out to be just a mediocre driver but i could be wrong-stewart is a pretty damn smart business man as well as a freak behind the wheel-he will think this 3rd seat thing out on a level of some immediate success as well as future success and staying power-to me. harvick would be short term and makes no sense-stewart, newman, and kahne would be a force to be reckoned with!!!!

It has to be tough not winning but, where does the blame go? All three of the RCR teams are mediocre at best this year & my fantasy teams are suffering the most. Get on the ball fellows!
My fantasy teams are not the real issue here folks, & I want to wish RCR the best as they try to salvage what's left of this season with a few wins. Go get em!

I certainly dont see how the Jr. nation could possibly have anything to say about Kevin Harvick. He may be having a bad year but how many years has Jr. had that were just riduculous. Oh sorry I forgot that was all Teresas fault. LOL. Whose fault is it this year. Face it he is just overated and cant see it for himself.

Happy should just be patient and ride out 2010 at RCR, letting SHR build the infrastructure for adding him in 2011. I never muck likes Dale Sr. or RCR when he was there, but became a fan of late, due to KH. It seems the recipe/commitment comes and goes there and it's time for Kevin to get with a younger and hungry team.

He'd be a great fit with Smoke and Newman.

Tbone I bet he does have that type of money, these guys bank a ton of cash each race and get many endorsements too and I doubt he'd have to spend that much.. I bet he could find a partner and they would be able to make this work, too bad JR wouldn't make the move with his Nationwide team JR/Harvick Motorsports would be a good team they could also combine their Nationwide teams too if JR wanted to stay in the Nationwide series

    JR
    Keslowski
    Harvick
and another driver would be a decent team

I know this may sound crazy but I do honestly think Harvick will end up buying majority of Yates Racing, turning it into Harvick/Yates Incorperated, and having a 3 or 4 car team next season.

I hope the best for Kevin. He filled some big shoes & expectations when he stepped into that car. Now all of Jr. Nation wants to beat him up because the owner is spending more time making wine, instead of making wins on the track. Hope he gets a frist class ride. Maybe with SHR.

I only hope that Bobby Labonte doesn't get stuck with yet another loser owner like Childress. OR Childress pulls his head out of his a$$ & puts it back into racing.
