Griese suspended 1 game for Montoya remark

ESPN broadcaster Bob Griese has been suspended one week for a remark he made about NASCAR driver Juan Pablo Montoya.

ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz says Griese will not be working a game this week.

Krulewitz says ESPN has spoken to Griese and “he understands the comment was inappropriate.”

During ESPN’s broadcast of the Minnesota-Ohio State game Saturday, a graphic was shown listing the top five drivers in NASCAR’s points race. Fellow analyst Chris Spielman asked where was Montoya, who is Colombian.

Griese replied he was “out having a taco.”

He has twice apologized on air for the remark.

Montoya is declining to comment on Griese’s suspension. He brushed off the remark Sunday, and said he’d never heard of Griese.

Say anything you want anywhere else in the world and nobody thinks twice about it. Only bin the U.S. do all these political correct people rule. Maybe that is why the country is coming apart from within.

Actually, ESPN should be penalized for exploiting this issue! They only did because of fear of their own ignorance! Granted, maybe Bob could have used a more appropriate statement about Montoya, but their was nothing racist, or negative enough for ESPN to run scared like they did. If if would have been Charles Barkley everyone would have laughed and praised him! I'm serious!

Well only in America I do not see what was wrong with Mr Griese comment on JPM. Actually Montoya is not concern about Mr Griese comment , he does'n even know who Griese is .I am Colombian and I do not feel offended by Mr Griese remarks actually sometimes I like to eat Mexican food, but I prefer my arepas, enpanadas and chicharron. By the way who is this Griese?

Thank goodness. Now we won't have to listen to him cry for at least one week. One of the poorest analysts on college football.

But it is not a bad judgment call. It's a joke. Should I be mad that he thinks only Mexicans eat of make Taco's? I'm white and I make and eat taco's. He should of said he was hiding from the border patrol.

Gangsta Nip: Yes it certainly is a freedom of speech issue. Mr. Griese did not call anyone a name. It was a reply to a question about the whereabouts of Juan Pablo Montoya. His response probably was not intended to be derogatory toward JPM at all. You people never will get it. The only people that got high and mighty about it were then people at ESPN. This is the same type of crap CBS pulled on a few people years ago. It's political correctness, plain and simple. The idea is to intimidate people so that even the most innocent remark is considered offensive and has to be punished. So instead of you telling people to go get a life, why don't you go pound sand.

I'm sick of the crap this country has come to. Big freaking deal. We should be able to say what we feel and think as we like. I'm sick of making nice to anyone that has ever been offended or taken advantage of. It has gone on since the beginning of man on this earth. Why are we constantly having to go back and say we are sorry for things we have nothing to do with. As I said, throughout the history of the world one group has always taken from other. The strongest survive. Suddenly we are trying to change what has been the pattern since the beginning. If someone wants to take what I have or say what they think about me then more power to them. Let's just all be honest and let the world turn as it will. Let the bull@#$% stop and lets begin to be individuals again. Majority rules and the strongest survive.

1 game suspension, so it looks like they took action when nobody really cares! Juan Pablo Montoya blew it off! Anybody remember the Fuzzy Zoeller (not sure I spelled that right?) comment about Tiger Woods? Fuzzy was gone in a heartbeat! The times they are a changing for all these older white good ol' boys! And Bob! JPM is Columbian, not Mexican..strike 2! And still NOBODY CARES!

ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz says Griese will not be working a game this week.

Does that mean he will call the race instead?

ESPN another HUGE Nascar mistake. Selling the sport and fans down the river just for the sake of the almighty dollar.

Get a life people. This is not a Freedom Of Speech issue, Mr. Griese is an employee of ESPN, the same way I am an employee of the company I work for. So I and Mr. Griese have to abide rules set forth by our respected companies, so if I called my boss an @#$% or whatever, I would be fired. And if Mr. Griese says something stupid on air, ESPN are entitled to do whatever they please.

Well ladies and gentlemen all across Internet land, I threw the gauntlet down to one of these political correctness geeks yesterday regarding Bob Griese's remark. The geek didn't respond, which is typical of gutless liberals who only have talking points given to them by someone elseand are unable to think for themselves. Bob Griese made an inappropriate remark that Juan Pablo Montoya wasn't even offended by and said he didn't know who Griese was. The only people to get upset over this were the cretins running ESPN and the political correctness fanatics all across this land. I don't know Bob Griese but I am willing to bet he has never deliberately made an offensive remark against anyone. It is unfortunate that we have people in this country constantly looking for a reason to be offended by the slightest remark, even if that remark was not directed toward them. If you believe in Freedom of Speech in this country, it is time to fire back at these fools that want to control what you say, when you say it , and where you say it. Now that I have put my opinion on the line, take your best shot.
