Tony Stewart One of the circuit's most inconsistent drivers over the first eight races, collecting five top-10 finishes while placing 25th or worse in the other four events; sputtered to 28th place last week at Talladega after crashing on the final lap; followed up 25th-place finish at Texas by running second two weeks ago at Phoenix, his second runner-up finish of the campaign; finished sixth in this event last year but struggled to 18th in the fall race.
Fell 203 points behind leader Jeff Gordon in the Nextel Cup standings thanks to running 34th last week at Talladega, where he was taken out in wreck in lap 152; remained second in the standings despite registering his worst performance of the campaign; has five top-five finishes and six top-10s this season; captured his first victory of the season three weeks ago at Texas; won the fall race here in 1998 and has 12 top-10 finishes in 25 career starts at this track; ran 15th in this event last season.
Kevin Harvick Has been wildly inconsistent this season since winning the Daytona 500, placing outside the top 15 in five of eight races since the season opener; has shown signs of improvement over the last two events, running 10th at Phoenix and placing sixth at Talladega; is ninth in the standings, 469 points behind Gordon; finished third in this race last season and won the 2006 fall race at this track; has six top-10 finishes in 12 career starts at this track.
