This week: Because Kahne did not win a race in 2007 and is still looking for his first victory this season, he did not automatically qualify for the All-Star Race. Kahne must win or finish second in the Sprint Showdown to earn a spot in this year's All-Star event.
Last week: Kahne was forced to go to a backup car after crashing in practice at Darlington. He finished 22nd to drop from 12th to 14th in the standings. "It wasn't nearly as good as our primary car," he said. "We also struggled on power a bit, but we kept it off the wall, which is a positive."
Etc.: Kahne said "it's pretty cool to go out there and really have nothing to lose (on Saturday night in the Showdown). It's pretty much go all out and try to win the thing and don't worry about salvaging a top-five or something like that."
