This week: Truex is still looking for his first top-10 finish in a Sprint Cup race at Daytona. His best finish in six starts is 13th. But he did win a Nationwide Series event at Daytona three years ago and has had five top-10 finishes in seven Nationwide races. "We've only got nine more races before the Chase starts, so we really need nothing but top-10 finishes in all of them," said Truex, who is 71 points out of the top 12.
Last week: Truex didn't get his birthday wish -- he turned 28 on Sunday -- but he did finish fourth to jump three spots in the standings. "That was a great decision by Bono (crew chief Kevin Manion)," Truex said of the decision to pit for gas during the fifth caution flag and not pit during the sixth yellow flag. "He had been telling me to try to save some gas, so we decided to roll the dice. We've run a lot better this year than we've normally finished, so what comes around goes around, I guess."
Etc.: Truex hopes his good fortune at Loudon means his run of bad luck is behind him. "There have been so many times this season where we ran well and didn't get the finish we deserved," said Truex. "It's good to see our luck change and have something positive happen to us."
