This week: Montoya finished second in the spring race at Talladega. For that reason, he couldn't be more optimistic about this weekend. "We certainly haven't had the best of seasons, but I believe we can contend (for a win) if we can avoid 'The Big One,'" said Montoya.
Last week: It was a roller-coaster weekend for Montoya. First, he thought he had won the pole only to see his time get disqualified because his car failed post-qualifying inspection. As a result, he was forced to start last. "To get a top-20 from starting dead last is a pretty good day," said crew chief Brian Pattie. "The car was real consistent all day."
Etc.: Montoya believes "the whole organization is getting better. The last few weeks we have been running a different car, and it's made a big difference. At Charlotte (last week during the two-day test), we came out with a brand new car and it was fast both days. It's really encouraging. All the guys at Chip Ganassi Racing have been working really hard trying to get our car to run more consistent."
